The UK and Ukraine have signed an expanded defence pact and an export credit deal for the Ukrainian nuclear energy operator. A Defence Export Support Treaty, signed last week during a visit to London by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will allow Kyiv to use part of UK Export Finance’s £3.5bn capacity for Ukraine coverage to purchase military goods and services.

Trade finance platform Komgo has launched a secondary market product for originators and investors, the latest industry attempt to digitise traditional asset distribution processes. After going live in 2018, Komgo’s initial focus was on streamlining commodity trade finance transactions. Now the trade finance platform has expanded its product range, repurposing its existing Market solution to allow financial institutions to sell different types of trade finance assets to investors.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States has agreed to lend US$1.6bn to the Angolan government for a solar infrastructure project that will boost access to clean water in the country. US Exim’s direct loan will support the construction of 65 solar mini-grids in four Angola provinces, supplying electricity to local communities and powering water collection, treatment and purification facilities.

The European Commission is set to scrap a controversial overhaul of late payment rules after a lack of support from several EU member states, GTR can reveal. The Commission proposed in September last year to limit all payment terms to a maximum of 30 days, prompting warnings from trade bodies that the reforms could make it unviable for banks to support supply chain finance facilities and increase costs for SMEs.
