Helping young people unlock creativity.

About us

Eastside Educational Trust is a registered charity which delivers arts activities and creative learning projects to children and young people through schools and community groups. We enable young people to work alongside professional artists and creative practitioners both in school time and out of school hours. Eastside makes art happen. Our mission is to engage and educate school age children, through direct participation in the arts. We want to inspire all young Londoners to develop their potential, share their talents and enrich their lives. We will do this by enabling young people to work with professional artists, in areas where our help is needed most. Eastside’s work has won many awards, set two official Guinness World Records for literature, gained two quality assurance marks - 'Learning Outside the Classroom' and 'Investing in Volunteers', won the 'European Award for Languages' and in 2010, we received 'The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service', the equivalent of an MBE for community based organisations. We make a difference to young Londoners' lives by enriching them. Young people participating in Eastside's work develop skills which help them to succeed and empower them to be confident, engaging and engaged individuals so that they are able to enter the job market fully prepared. Our workshops and projects go beyond what they learn as we believe that participants enhance their social networks.

What an amazing gathering of educators from primary to higher education across Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest coming together under the East Ed umbrella last week! The event offered professional development and networking opportunities, exploring how digital developments can offer an opportunity for innovation, and how schools and partners can work together to develop skills, career awareness, and healthy digital habits for the young people we work with. The evening included a range of presentations from educators and employers, round table discussions, and practice sharing. We also shared opportunities via the amazing East Ed partners. ⭐️ East Ed is a cross-organisational effort between the world-leading East Bank partners: BBC, UCL, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, Victoria and Albert Museum and SADLER'S WELLS LIMITED supported by the London Legacy Development Corporation. The programme also features collaborations from other incredible local partners. ⭐️ Eastside is the delivery partner for the East Ed series of events for educators 2024-2026, lead by our East Ed programme manager Francesca Gkotsi. 🎤 Speakers Ahmed Hussain, Head of BBC Asian Network shared his views on what employers need, what digital tools teachers and young people have at their fingertips and how the world of work has changed. Peter Rutherford, Computing Lead at Jenny Hammond Primary gave inspiring examples of creative digital project-based learning, tried and tested. Sammy Yoka Lindo Engele from the Digital Institute, Staffordshire University based at Here East, Queen Elizabeth park taled about how will digital development impact future careers and what can we do as educators to support this. 🔗 Find out more... The comedy and jazz event held in London’s Criterion Theatre saw the likes of Jenny Eclair performing, raising over £29,000 for Lund Fund, a campaign for disadvantaged children. Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Izzy to the team for a week-long placement. Izzy wrote a blog post reflecting on her time with us, read the full piece via our website: https://lnkd.in/g2dfm28S "I felt so included and valued by all the staff and am extremely grateful to be part of something so impactful. Every single person I met who is part of the charity is so committed to the values and aims and to be able to feel part of it, if only for a short length of time, was a treat. I look forward to keeping in touch with everyone who makes this wonderful charity able to do what they do, and reading about the exciting plans and programmes that Eastside will go on to facilitate going into their 4th decade. I can’t thank everyone enough for allowing me to be part of the team and explore opportunities that will most definitely help form what I go on to do in the future. Thank you Eastside!" #charityplacement #charityworkexperience

A big thank you to Dairy Meadow Primary School in Southall for sharing this lovely article about our Artists in Residence programme, currently running throughout the Summer Term in 12 schools across London. “Sophie taught us all about the materials and skills used when creating a range of animations. Our young creatives learned about claymation and stop frame animation, hopefully inspiring the next generation of Nick Park’s!” 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eVXZTzgA
