⚡ We’re proud to share that the #DraxFoundation has donated £300,000 to help combat UK fuel poverty. This new funding has been allocated to three organisations that support those affected by household energy insecurity in our communities across the UK - Fuel Bank Foundation, National Energy Action (NEA) and ALIenergy (Argyll, Lomond and the Islands Energy Agency). Speaking about this new funding, our Head of Community, Shona King, said: “These grants build upon the Drax Foundation’s strong record in supporting the communities where we operate. The £300,000 in grants for NEA, ALIenergy and Fuel Bank Foundation will help to address the critical issue of fuel poverty within the communities where we operate by providing education for school students, financial support for those in need and provisions for those in isolated off-grid homes.” 💬 👉 Learn more in our latest press release: https://lnkd.in/eHwHWiWt

🌿 We’re pleased to announce that all DB Cargo (UK) Limited trains delivering our sustainable biomass to Drax Power Station will switch to run on environmentally friendly Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO). 🛤️ This is just one step towards our commitment to lowering supply chain emissions and reaching our ambition of becoming carbon negative by 2030. 🌍 With DB Cargo UK transporting 4.5 million tonnes of biomass to Drax Power Station annually, the switch to HVO is estimated to save over 12,000 tonnes of carbon per year - that's equivalent to 30 million miles of car journeys. 🚗 👉 Read more in our latest press release: https://lnkd.in/efu22w_G

We were pleased to welcome the British Transport Police on a visit of Drax Power Station recently. 👮 🤝 They learnt about how we generate renewable energy from sustainable biomass, helping to keep the lights on across the UK, as well as our plans to develop the #carbonremoval technology, #BECCS. 💡 💭 During the tour, the team were also joined by Sparky, the Robodog who carries out inspections and captures critical data on machinery, helping to maximise safety at the power station. 🤖

🗞️ A new article from Yorkshire Post reflects on the past 50 years of Drax Power Station and looks ahead to what the future brings. Speaking about the milestone, our Plant Director, Bruce Heppenstall, said: ‘As we come into our half century, we look back with pride at what’s been achieved. But we also look forward to what our legacy will be.’ 💬 Having transitioned from coal to sustainable biomass, contributing millions to the local economy and supporting thousands of jobs, we’re now looking to the future. ⚡ We have plans to develop bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (#BECCS) at Drax with a target to capture and permanently store eight million tonnes of carbon per year - equivalent to taking three million cars off the road. 🌍 👉 https://lnkd.in/eF7-fEje

A new report from Aquaicity examines the need for long-duration electricity storage (LDES). This report, commissioned by Drax, highlights the critical role of Cruachan Power Station in the UK’s energy system. 🗞️ Key takeaways from the report below. ⬇️ 💡 As we move towards a more electrified economy and a greater reliance on renewable energy, the demand for electricity storage will continue to rise to ensure system operability and security. 💧 Pumped storage is the only mature long-duration electricity storage (LDES) technology currently deployed on the UK energy system and there is policy backing for new capacity. 🛠️ Drax’s Cruachan Power Station in Scotland is one of just four pumped storage plants in the UK and we have exciting plans to expand it. 🌍 We have secured planning consent from the Scottish Government for a 600MW expansion of the power station, which would more than double the site’s total generation capacity. Plus, we have begun an £80 million upgrade of the existing power station. ⚡ These exciting plans are a building block in our target to deliver post 2027 EBITDA of £250m from FlexGen & Energy Solutions. Find out more via the report, linked in the comments. 👇
