Meet Emily Brown! Our Operations Lead (People) Emily is our HR hostess with most-ess! She always brings joy and connection to the team through wholesome team-building activities. She has an eye for health and wellbeing snacks and vegan-y goodness, even bringing in sea moss for us to try (though that wasn't as yummy as her usual bakes). You may have had the pleasure of speaking to Emily on the phone; the team would definitely nominate her to record the D&A audiobook if we ever publish one! Thank you, Emily, for all of your hard work and fabulous contributions, and we hope to share a kombucha with you soon! #Diversity #Inclusion #Disability #Neurodiversity #Accessibility

Championing authentic disability inclusion through training, tools and talent.
About us
Diversity and Ability (D&A) is a multi-award-winning social enterprise led by and for disabled people. We inform and advocate for intersectional neurodiversity and disability inclusion through technology, training and talent. Through bespoke workshops and training programmes, consultancy, audits, and individualised one-to-one support, we create positive and lasting culture shifts. D&A informs policy and pioneers projects across the education and workplace sectors, as well as developing training programmes and support for those excluded from these spheres. With 85% of our team self-identifying as disabled and/or neurodiverse, everything we do is underpinned by a recognition that lived experience brings strength and value to our society. We’re using those lived experiences, alongside our passion and expertise for celebrating diversity and fostering authentic inclusion, to create a world in which everyone can participate and thrive.

No - it's not about dolphins. Echolalia is the repetition of words, phrases, or sounds that someone else has said. Our office is full of neurodiverse people, so we often get stuck on words or sounds each other makes! Echolalia arises for multiple reasons, including communication, self-regulation, or processing information. Remembering this when you engage with our community is important, as repeating something someone else has said can be seen as something done to mock or be rude. At the same time, it's important to try to catch our echolalia in certain cases—repeating something in someone else's accent may happen out of impulse, but it can be harmful! What are some things you always repeat if you hear them? #Diversity #Inclusion #Disability #Neurodiversity #Accessibility #access

You can't know it all as an EDI professional. Trying on someone else's shoes doesn't tell you how they pinch after a long day or how well they hold up in the rain. That is the value of lived experience. - Without lived experience of disability, you won't see the barriers your workforce faces. - Without lived experience informing your policy and EDI strategy, you could be implementing things that make your people feel more excluded. Not less. We know the value and strength of lived experience - it's why 79% of our community identify as Deaf, Disabled and/or neurodiverse. Hit a wall trying to boost the psychological safety of disabled employees? We can guide you forward. Do you have a burning disability question? Leave it in the comments, and we'll get to work answering it! #Diversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #Disability #Neurodiversity #Accessibility #a11y #access #DiversityAndAbility

Last week, our amazing team all met up in London 🎡 We shared stories, brainstormed some new ways to collaborate and caught some rays! As our team works from up and down the country, it's great to get together when we can! How do you foster connectedness in your hybrid workplace? [Video Description: Clips of the D&A team. In the first clip, they are walking, and a few of them are wearing sunglasses. The second clip is of Molly, a wheelchair user, boarding a train. The third is of the view as a train crosses a bridge over the Thames. The D&A team sat ready to listen to a presentation in the fourth clip. In the fifth clip, the team queues for lunch and chats. The sixth shows them listening intently during a presentation. The seventh shows them chatting after partaking in an activity and cleaning up. The final clip shows them having a few drinks in the pub.] #Diversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #Disability #Neurodiversity #HybridWorking

Not read the party manifestos yet? The election is on Thursday—it's time to get hustling! We've checked the five main parties' manifestos to see how accessible they are. The results are mixed. Labour tops the list with the most alternative formats. Conservatives and Liberal Democrats are tied for second. Green Party offers only two formats, and Reform hasn't provided any. While it's clear the three major parties have more resources, it doesn't excuse Green and Reform. Elections can impact the lives of everyone, especially Disabled people and limiting access by not providing accessible alternative formats is not okay. Do better! #Diversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #Disability #Neurodiversity #Accessibility #a11y #access #GeneralElection
