Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming film and TV journalist Ellen E Jones to our office as part of DCM’s Living Our Values series of talks. 📽🖋 Ellen writes about film for publications such as The Guardian and Empire magazine, co-hosts the BBC’s Screenshot podcast alongside Mark Kermode, and has recently released a book titled ‘Screen Deep: How Film & TV can help solve racism and save the world’. 📖 Ellen spoke about her book, which investigates the impact film & TV storytelling can have on culture, and how #film can be used as a means to educate, persuade and broaden horizons beyond our own experiences. She emphasised the use of storytelling to evoke emotion, and the power of watching a film with other people. “There is a magic and communal power of watching something in the #cinema, hearing other people laugh and gasp and share the experience. That power of creating empathy, of putting yourself in others shoes, is immense.” At the end of the talk, Ellen left us with an important takeaway: “Challenge yourself. Seek out things that you might not normally watch. Film and TV are a window into experiences we may not be a part of otherwise... A diverse range of influences in TV and film is good for us all.” 🎬 Thank you Ellen for joining us and sharing more about your work and your book. #InsideOut2 once again took the top spot at the #UKBoxOffice, adding £5.1m to achieve a total of £40.1m. It has now overtaken #DunePart2 (£39.5m) to become the biggest film of 2024, and has delivered approximately 12 16-34 adult TVRs across the industry. 😊😭🤬 #AQuietPlaceDayOne stayed in second, adding £1.6m. After two weekends in cinemas, the sci-fi prequel is up to £6.2m and has a good shot of joining the previous two #AQuietPlace films at over £10m. 🔇🤫 Taking the third spot this week is #BadBoysRideOrDie, adding £447k for a new total to £11.1m. Yesterday morning we held our annual #DCMUpfronts showcase event at ODEON Cinemas Group Luxe Leicester Square. Thank you to everyone who came along – we hope you enjoyed the event and took away some key insights and creative ideas to inspire your upcoming #CinemaAdvertising campaigns. The morning was jam-packed! 🎬 Our CEO Karen Stacey kicked off proceedings, introducing the theme of the day and how #cinema can MAXIMISE brand campaigns, especially when starting with cinema to launch a new product, new message, or new campaign. 🎬 Founder of Craft Media London, Jen Jones, hosted a special client panel with Alex Taborda, Head of Media for the Professional Products Division at L'Oréal, Steph Ferreira, Head of Customer Marketing & Digital at Hotpoint Appliances Limited, and Josh Hurrell, TVP Marketing & Media Planning Lead at Sky. They each spoke about how their brands have adopted a #StartWithCinema strategy, and how the medium plays a vital role within the wider #media mix. 🎬 Andrew Tenzer, Co-founder of Burst Your Bubble, presented our brand-new research piece: The Cultural Power of Cinema. #InsideOut2 continues to take the top spot this weekend at the #UKBoxOffice with £6m, dropping only 23% in its third week of release. This animated sequel has now crossed the £30m mark, with a total gross of £32m. 😊😭🤬 #AQuietPlaceDayOne had a great opening weekend, with a gross of £2.9m (including Thursday previews). The 3-day opening of £2.4m is 23% higher than #AQuietPlace (£1.9m) and 9% more than A Quiet Place Part II (£2.2m). 🔇🤫 #Kalki2898AD opened in third spot this weekend with £502k, and including previews is up to £886k.
