And now for an overview of the key recent developments on Ukraine. The biggest story in recent days has of course been the West-Russia prisoner swap. This was fascinating on many levels, but the key question from the policy analysis perspective is, does it signal Russia's wider willingness to negotiate? And the answer is, probably not. More likely is that the Kremlin chose to close the deal before a new US president - whoever that would be - had a chance to scuttle the deal. Still, this is evidence that the Kremlin can negotiate and compromise when it wants to. That is likely to come in handy. Meanwhile, the war grinds on. The Russian push in the Pokrovsk sector of Donetsk region remains the main hotspot, the key worry for Ukraine. But this is still about just one segment of the lengthy frontline. Meanwhile in Russia, Putin also doubled the lump payout for its army volunteers - a clear sign that raising troops is an increasing challenge. But this is also a suggestion that no, Vladimir Putin does not plan to relent yet. Ukraine, at least, got a long-awaited boost: President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed that the first F-16 fighter jets have started flying missions in the country. This is a handful of aircraft with pilots fresh out of training, so best not to expect miracles. But this is important from the civilian point of view because the one thing that the F-16s would be used for is intercepting Russian missiles. And this means fewer strikes on energy targets and other civilian facilities. It is too early to assess the effect, but it just might be that between the F-16s and the extra Patriot air defence systems, the worst is over for Ukraine's infrastructure.
