Building partnerships between business, government and public bodies to accelerate international sustainable development
About us
Climate Action was founded in 2007 and is based in London, UK. Climate Action was originally founded as a formal partnership with UN Environment – the world’s foremost body on environmental protection and stewardship. Climate Action now works with network of UN Agencies, major donors, governments, NGOs', intergovernmental organisations and over 1000 private sector companies. Our goal is to facilitate partnerships between these key stakeholders in order to accelerate the global green economy and achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. We are working in partnership with UNEP Finance Initiative on a programme of sustainable finance forums under the brand Sustainable Investment Forum which aim to increase Sustainable Responsible Investment (SRI) by major asset owners, investors and asset managers. We do this through a series of award winning forums, advocacy activity, webinars and digital and social communities.

What caught the eye of Greg Jackson when he first heard about Xlinks? The Octopus Energy founder and CEO personally invested in Xlinks years ago and felt so strongly about cleaning up the planet and the urgency in tackling climate change, that he soon spoke to his Octopus Energy colleagues and investors about backing the project too. "I was absolutely thrilled when I heard about Xlinks and met the incredibly talented people that were building out this project. The reality is, if we can shift oil and gas around the world, it's cheaper and easier to move electricity. It's just no one had done it," he said. Yesterday, Xlinks Morocco-UK Power Project CEO, James Humfrey, spoke about the rise of the mega project at the Climate Action Climate Innovation Forum, a flagship event during London Climate Action Week. Once completed, the project will be the world’s largest subsea power cable to deliver renewable energy from the Moroccan desert to Devon in South West England. Morocco’s renewable energy region of Guelmim-Oued Noun will be connected exclusively to Great Britain via 4000km (2485 miles) HVDC sub-sea cables. Supplying near constant, clean energy to power the equivalent of 7 million British homes all year round. Mega projects like Xlinks' Morocco-UK Power Project, will require sizeable investment. According to the Climate Policy Initiative Report, by 2030 approximately 35 trillion dollars will be needed in the transition away from fossil fuels demands. We're pleased that Octopus Energy is one of a number of significant investors from the energy sector backing the Morocco-UK Power Project, including TAQA Group, TotalEnergies, GE Vernova and Africa Finance Corporation. "It was something I'd always wanted to see." Greg said. #Energy #NetZero #ClimateChange
