London's safe, sustainable solution to surplus food redistribution. City Harvest rescues food, people, and the planet.
About us
City Harvest is London's surplus food redistribution charity, delivering free nutritious food to 375+ organisations. 1 in 4 people face food poverty in London, City Harvest is a sustainable solution tackling food waste and food poverty. Rescuing Food, People and Planet. Every day our fleet of vans rescues surplus food from retailers, manufacturers, markets and events, resulting in the reduction of food waste and greenhouse gas emissions. We currently deliver food for 10 million meals a year, that’s food for 30,000 meals a day! As pandemic emergency workers, City Harvest is on a mission to get all surplus food to those who need it most. We know the food is there, it is just a matter of clever logistics, and that’s what we specialise in. How do food donors benefit? We ensure no good food is wasted and your surplus reaches those who need it most, diverted from landfill, we also help companies achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Who do we deliver to? We provide free food to organisations supporting: the homeless, food banks, children and family groups providing food parcels, community and faith groups feeding those in need, women’s refuges, the elderly and mental health groups.

City Harvest London is delighted to welcome our new Chair, Paul Freeston. Huge thanks to our founders Laura Winningham OBE, and now ex Chair, Stephen M. Winningham, who continues to be very much involved.
I am thrilled to have been appointed Chair of City Harvest London - a fabulous charity tackling poverty by redistributing food that would otherwise be wasted. It is extraordinary that 1 in 5 Londoners live in food poverty. City Harvest makes a real difference by supporting around 125,000 people in the community each week through its charity partners. Less food wasted has a positive impact on the planet as well as people. I feel privileged to take on the Chair role from Stephen M. Winningham. As a co founder, Steve has been central to to creation of City Harvest from the start - alongside Laura Winningham OBE who was the founding CEO and led the organisation for many years. Without their passion, drive, energy and determination City Harvest would not exist. Now, our challenge and duty is to build on this legacy. To do this, we benefit from a great team of staff and volunteers led by our amazing CEO Sarah Calcutt and supported by funders, charity partners and my fellow Board members. I will also working closely with Steve and benefitting from his guidance and wisdom. For the last 25 years at apetito, I have been proud to lead a company that is making a real difference. I am now delighted to have the opportunity to work with and support a charity team that is doing the same.
