Cheshire East Council is a unitary authority area, established in April 2009 under the local Government reorganisation. We provide hundreds of local services across Cheshire East to our 376,700 residents and 20,200 businesses. An ambitious council, we’re working hard to maximise the benefits of our strategic location between the Northern Powerhouse and the Midlands Engine and our proximity to Merseyside and Wales. These ceremonies paid tribute to the service and sacrifice of our armed forces personnel, both past and present, and also served as an opportunity to raise awareness of the amazing work by the RBL and other veteran support organisations across the borough.
Today I had honour to support Cheshire East Council and their Armed Forces Champion Richard Stephenson-evans who continually goes that extra mile to support the Veteran community in East Cheshire. Today Cheshire East Council held Armed Forces Flag Raising events at #Crewe Town Hall and #Macclesfield Town Hall. Both events we’re supported by members of 75 Engineer Regiment and #cadets from across the region. Great turn-out from #VeteranCommunity from across East Cheshire. We’ve started the ball rolling on our new Local Plan which will eventually set the blueprint for development in Cheshire East into the 2040s. A Local Plan sets out how new development should take place in the future and shows what sort of development is acceptable and where, for example homes, business growth and infrastructure. The current Cheshire East Local Plan runs to 2030 and last year, the council decided that a new one should be prepared to replace it. A 12-week consultation is now underway on our ‘Local Plan issues paper’, which is the first important step in preparing our new local plan. We want your feedback on how you feel it could help to tackle local priorities including meeting the borough’s future housing needs, tackling climate change, providing new jobs, restoring nature and supporting healthier lifestyles. We link volunteers – 1:1, or in small teams if needed to do just that - for up to six weeks. Focussed on discharges from Macclesfield and Crewe Leighton hospitals, and delivered in the person's home wherever they live across our towns and villages across Cheshire East, we believe the best support comes from communities.
