Carbon13 is looking for climate startups for its accelerator the Venture Launchpad - so what counts as "climate"? It's certainly more than just carbon removal. There's the obvious: emissions reduction startups - this includes startups working on products or services which displace emitting solutions or mitigate them. E.g. zero carbon concrete, regenerative finance or supply chain optimisation There's also less obvious - startups which promote biodiversity, or the better use of natural resources e.g. water, or those which provide circularity and waste reduction. Still not sure? A good rule of thumb is... you. Why are you doing your startup? What problem is driving you to build a solution? If the answer is anything like "I want to limit global warming" or "prevent a mass extinction" or "create a healthier land", then your startup probably has potential. And our accelerator can take that potential and help you understand how you maximise it. We help you understand how to reach millions of tonnes of emissions impact. So that when you look back after ten years of blood, sweat and tears building your startup, you'll know you made the real, measurable, difference you set out to do in the first place. How much #deeptech vs #software should we aim for? My cofounder asked me this question before the start of our first cohort four years ago. We agreed it would be about 70% software and 30% hardware / biotech - or deep tech…well our founders showed us what is needed! 9 cohorts, over 750 founders and 71 investments into #climatetech startups later, we’ve made Carbon13 one of the most active deep tech climate investors in Europe with a vast majority of our portfolio in deep tech. We’ve invested and helped scale teams in #greenhydrogen #greenammonia #materialsdiscovery #batteries #greensteel #greencement from #synbio to chemical engineering to advanced Ai to actual hardware engineering and many more areas. It’s working! Great to see the numbers we see represented in this McKinsey & Company report. Go #deeptech climate!

Thanks to the First Momentum Ventures team for putting this out. The Point Nine #SaaS napkin was super helpful when we were building our last startup Poq. The SaaS ecosystem has a lot of blueprint and playbooks for founders, this is still missing in #hardware, #deeptech, #climatetech. Thanks for pushing this forward to help early stage founders to benchmark themselves easily regarding their next funding round.
It took a while but it's finally out 🔊 Inspired by Point Nine 's famous SaaS Napkin, we at First Momentum Ventures set out to build a comprehensive benchmark for European Deep Tech founders: our Deep Tech Hardware Napkin. We collected over 100 data points from 30 VCs across Europe to provide a data-driven guide to the milestones for each stage, from Pre-Seed to Series B. You can find the report here: bit.ly/3zMnhjm And the TechCrunch coverage here: https://tcrn.ch/3S0vrLu Big Thanks to all contributors, especially David Meiborg, Lena Späth and Reinhardt Karpenko
