Fashion Revolution (thank you) has lifted the lid on 250 of the world's largest fashion brands' commitment to decarbonize and, quelle surprise, its grim reading: The average score of 250 of the world’s largest fashion brands is just 18%. The highest score this year is 75%. 13% major brands scored a 0% rating. Only four out of 250 major brands (ASICS, H&M, Marks & Spencer and Patagonia) disclose emissions reduction targets that align with the UN’s goal of a 55% absolute emissions reduction by 2030 from 2018 levels. Of the 105 out of 250 brands that disclose their progress, 42 disclose increases in scope 3 emissions against their baselines For 145 brands (58%), it is unclear what their progress is 86% of companies lack a public coal phase-out target, 94% are without a public renewable energy target, and 92% are without a public renewable electricity target for their supply chains. 89% do not disclose how many clothes they make annually. 45% fail to disclose neither how much they make nor the raw material emissions footprint of what is produced 94% big fashion brands fail to disclose how much they are investing in supply chain decarbonisation 94% of big fashion brands do not disclose how they are engaging with workers and communities to identify the impacts of their climate strategy and co-create local solutions and mitigations. One last thought, if you are buying clothing from big brands, buy from one that gives a toss about the future. https://lnkd.in/eGx3VMjV

Lovely little article in The Scotsman about one of our surveyors, who's spent 40 years (not an unusual tenure for OS) mapping Scotland 'millimetre by millimetre'. Gives a great view of how mapping in Scotland has changed in his time, as well as over the last 200 odd years. Worth a read... #SeeABetterPlace #maps #Scotland https://lnkd.in/e2MHASFi

A 50-page report that has taken two years to publish, and we are no further on. This is disappointing from Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), not just in the length of time it has taken but the lack of conclusions. We, along with other carbon accountants, recognise that we are trying to put "round pegs into square holes" as technology and science are moving beyond the current corporate standards. The recent announcement that #ghg in aligning with #issb is welcome, but will in all likelyhood delay further updated guidance. In the meantime, we'll continue to use the "common sense approach" #sustainability #carbonaccounting

Life is full of surprises. Trees as we all know play a vital role in the fight against global warming. News this week that planet Earth recorded its hottest day ever at over 17°C ( 64.4°F), we need more forest cover than ever before. Think about what you buy and where you buy it...#wornbyus
I connect Cheshire charities with businesses and professionals to provide skills, completely free of charge, to support the charities and the local community.
Not everyone uses Vinted or Ebay… Last week I had a great catch up with the lovely Nicola Gleave from Worn By Us. This charity was established by Nicola in 2015. Their purpose: Our purpose is to help keep clothes in use for longer until the end of their lifespan because this is best for the planet. Only 5 to 7 percent of resaleable fashion is sold and bought on resale platforms at the moment. There’s an estimated 2.1 trillion dollars of fashion items currently sitting in wardrobes that are not being used (Business of Fashion). Our aim is to provide an easy and trusted service for consumers and retailers to resell and gain value from unwanted clothing. Nicola outlines a number of options to resell on their website (in comments) so please consider what Worn By Us is offering as an alternative… I have always liked this image of Nicola surrounded by clothes as it tells the story visually.

Carbon Happy Friday! At Carbon Happy World it is always a pleasure to see the next generation of eco warriors embrace sustainability, we call them the carbon happy generation! This week we supported Natalie Reeves Billing DL FRSA and Split Perspectivz CIC T/A The Builder Book UK Project and delivered the amazing Planet Packs to Primary schools across Liverpool. Great initiatives across the ECO Councils such as building their own green house to grow their own vegetables, to sending their food waste to a local pig farm to recycling uniforms and clothing, these young people are incredibly inspirational and give us all hope. Thank you Alison McLeod at St. Paul & St. Timothy's Catholic Infant School and Sally Aspinwall, Lyndsey Ball and Emma Rowley at The Beacon CE Primary School. #BuilderBook #PlanetPack #Sustainability #ECOSchool #GreenSchools

Sport and sustainability are global phenomena, local actions have a global impact. The Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sports aims to work with organisations from around the world to create more transparency and highlight the great work being done in different regions and sports. We are delighted and honoured to be working with the Desert Vipers. The Cricket powerhouse is the first organisation from Dubai to take the big step towards more transparency and accountability by receiving the GSBS Rating in this year's reporting cycle. We look forward to accompanying and documenting the Vipers' ambitious journey from now on while using the platform of our annual GSBS Report, reaching 83 countries worldwide and highlighting the work on the ground for global impact.
