    Big up Amarni Saunders hosting a great online huddle this month for BTSN's Account Execs... The session was all about ✨ Mastering Your Negotiations ✨... here are the key takeaways ⬇️ 🚫 Trade, don’t break. See where you can trade compromises rather than holding a rigid position. if you’re giving something away make sure you receive something in return and don’t give things away for nothing as this undermines your value. Focus on the interests to both of you rather than an AE trying to win the deal or a prospect just trying to get a better price. 💰 Cost isn’t the objection, value is. We used the analogy of $50k being expensive for a pair of shoes, but cheap for a house. Cost is only relevant in the context of the value assigned. In negotiations don’t try to justify the cost, try to reaffirm the value and the benefits of purchasing. E.g. 2x increase in sales rather than ‘it’s only 10% more than what you’re paying now’. 🔈 Everything on the table. This is specifically when negotiating commercials. Try to get a presumptive close before this so that you don’t introduce other factors. E.g. ‘assuming we agree on a mutually beneficial price, would you be able to sign by X’? This conditional acceptance help reaffirm the partnership and that this is the final hurdle before closing. 👋🏿 Non-monetary levers. Trade more than just £££. Linked to Trade Don’t Break here you can negotiate things like extra contract length, introduction to other customers, case studies, minimum usage, social media post etc etc 🤝 Externalise the Bad Guy. Some companies use the concept of a ‘pricing committee’ that we get approvals from. This helps you to form more of a partnership with the prospect and then you make requests on their behalf. In this sense your incentives are aligned as you both want to get them the best deal. Helps with rapport but also negotiation success.
