Prime Minister Kaja Kallas of Estonia, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė of Lithuania, and Prime Minister Evika Siliņa of Latvia form the #BalticSisterhood, a remarkable trio of female leaders at the helm of their nations. These leaders have demonstrated exceptional strength and strategic foresight in addressing regional and global challenges, particularly in their responses to Russian aggression. Their leadership highlights a keen sense of risk assessment and resilience, playing a critical role in fortifying their nations and contributing to the stability of the Euro-Atlantic region. The #BalticSisterhood not only challenges traditional gender norms but also provides a powerful example of effective and inclusive leadership in contemporary international relations. Their diplomatic, defense, and economic initiatives offer invaluable insights into the dynamic landscape of global politics, embodying the essence of #UngentlemanlyWarfare through their innovative and resilient strategies.

🇪🇪 #Estonia PM Kaja Kallas is 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 her candidacy for becoming the next #NATO Secretary General. It’s now almost certain that 🇳🇱 Dutch PM Mark Rutte will be elected instead. ☝️ Kallas was viewed as “too Eastern” and “too hawkish on Russia” Because she sees through russian #propaganda and calls them out on it. Kallas leads a free, independent, democratic, NATO-allied Baltic state. And supports #Ukraine more than any other country (by GDP per capita) 📉 Rutte, meanwhile, is “more predictable” - he spent most of his career cutting #military spending and the #Netherlands currently doesn't even meet the 2% of GDP guideline. A shame. Kallas would have been a great fit. 🫤 I guess it would be too shocking if someone with strong opinions on russian aggression were to become Secretary General of an organization founded primarily in response to Russian aggression. #Leadership #Security #StandWithUkraine 🇺🇦

On LinkedIn, one can be honored or thrilled so... 🌟 Thrilled to share that I will present my research at the International Studies Association (ISA) conference in San Francisco! My paper, "Reimagining Diplomacy Through Female Leadership: Care and Community in Europe During the Russo-Ukrainian War," embarks on a crucial exploration into how female leadership across Europe is sculpting a new paradigm in diplomacy amidst the complex challenges posed by the Russo-Ukrainian War. This research is a call to action, urging a departure from traditional diplomacy's focus on power and political interests towards a model that genuinely prioritizes the welfare and stability of communities at the heart of conflict. Through meticulous analysis, the study illustrates how female leaders have been pivotal in championing diplomacy rooted in care and community - a stark contrast to the often superficial "empathy," non-committal ceasefire promises, and the so-called "luxury beliefs" (Rob Henderson, 2022) that, paradoxically, increase the death and suffering in Ukraine. This work is to further diplomacy that meaningfully engages with the realities on the ground, recognizing that true empathy involves actionable support and a commitment to the principles of sovereignty and human dignity. Far from endorsing passive gestures, it celebrates the resolve and strategic insight of Europe's female leaders, who have shown unprecedented solidarity with Ukraine, redefining what it means to lead in geopolitical strife. I look forward to engaging with fellow scholars and practitioners on this timely issue, sparking conversations that inspire reevaluating our approach to international crises. Let’s rethink diplomacy together, moving towards a future where it serves as a genuine force for healing and unity. #ISA2024 #DiplomacyReimagined #FemaleLeadership #RussoUkrainianWar #InternationalRelations BrainStates Inc The University of Saint Katherine

I want to share! I’ve recently contributed a research article to UA: Ukraine Analytica! 🌐 The Importance of UA: Ukraine Analytica 🌐 UA is the first Ukrainian journal to fill a unique niche with its English-language scholarship on International Relations, Politics, and Economics. The editors Hanna Shelest and Nikolay Marchenko are indomitable! The journal’s commitment to fostering rigorous academic dialogue is supported by distinguished organizations such as the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Ebert Foundation and the International Renaissance Foundation in Ukraine. 📜 About the Research 📜 The article employs a mixed-methods discourse analysis to scrutinize the public diplomacy efforts of #Estonia’s Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas. This methodological approach serves as a lens through which the broader strategic dynamics of Europe’s security infrastructure are examined, particularly during the critical juncture of the Vilnius Summit. By focusing on Kallas’s innovative approach, the study not only highlights key developments at the Summit but also illuminates potential transformative moments in European security policy. “Kallas's public diplomacy conveys a sense of influence and power. This implies that she uses language that commands attention and portrays a strong presence. In a leadership position within NATO having the ability to project influence and assertiveness is essential for advancing the alliance's goals, promoting unity, and effectively engaging with external actors.” -pg 42 For those interested in how European security frameworks are evolving, particularly in the context of Russia-Ukraine relations, I encourage you to engage with this topic further.
