    Trainee Solicitor

Nothing says Friday feeling to me like achieving a life long ambition .... At 18 I was studying law at King's College London, and a decade later (last week) I was in the same spot at the RCJ finishing off my traineeship! I've gone from growing up in a small working town in Lancashire to qualifying as a lawyer on this sunny day in July. Thank you to everyone at Brabners it's been an incredible journey and it's only just begun, I'm so excited for the next adventure starting on Monday. This girl can. #Thisgirlcan

Across the media with this today on LBC, BBC 5 Live and Sky. Later I’ll be on Talk Tv and on the BBC. The Mass IT outage is causing chaos in a number of sectors including healthcare. Pharmacists and pharmacy teams are dealing with more handwritten prescriptions! 😉 We’ve been having a number of discussions with healthcare legal clients impacted, but also gathering lots of legal insights from across Brabners. I was delighted to host our Brabners Building Links summer event in our Manchester office yesterday. We were joined by John Riches, vice chair of the JCT drafting sub-committee who led us through the latest changes introduced by the 2024 suite of JCT construction contracts and Elizabeth Donnelly of Keating Chambers who provided a roundup of the latest interesting case law affecting the industry. After a lively panel Q&A session, we went out on to our roof terrace looking out on the Manchester skyline and chatting over drinks and nibbles. Thanks so much for coming everyone. Our next event will be in November… Watch this space for further details. If you’d like to be added to the guest list for our future events, please let me know. #brabners #jct #constructionlaw #realestate #development #caselaw #buildinglinks #lovemyjob

The skills gap in the UK construction industry remains significant, with serious implications for the sector's future. The latest CSN report from the CITB forecasts a need for 251,500 additional professionals by 2028, while the current workforce is aging, and the impact of Brexit continues to be felt. This shortage poses major challenges for the industry including: 🔔 Project delays and cost overruns: The lack of skilled workers could lead to delays, disrupting project timelines and inflating costs. 🔔 Quality and safety risks: Insufficient expertise may compromise the quality of construction work and increase the risk of accidents on site. 🔔 Increased competition and rising wages: The demand for skilled workers is likely to drive up wages, putting further pressure on already tight budgets. 🔔 Economic impact: The skills gap could hinder the industry's growth potential and its ability to contribute to the UK economy, particularly in areas like housing and infrastructure development. Addressing this crisis requires a concerted effort from across the industry, including: 💡 Recruitment and training: Attracting a new generation of talent through apprenticeships, training programs, and career development initiatives is essential. Educating the industry on the sponsorship of oversees talent to bridge the gap. 💡 Enhancing industry perception: Promoting the diverse career paths, earning potential, and technological advancements in construction to help attract a wider pool of candidates and dispel outdated perceptions of the industry. Latest reports show that despite recent progress, the UK engineering industry struggles to retain women, with their representation falling in the past year, highlighting ongoing barriers and the need for greater inclusivity. 💡 Embracing technological innovation: Utilising modern technologies like BIM, VR/AR, and AI not only improves productivity and safety but also attracts tech-savvy individuals who are seeking a dynamic and innovative work environment. ⚡ I'm keen to explore this topic further in a Brabners Building Links ⛓ event by bringing together experts and key voices to delve into the challenges faced in the industry and explore the opportunities and practical steps that can be taken in the sector to address this concerning issue. ❓ What do you think? Are there any other issues affecting the industry that you'd like to see us cover in upcoming Building Links sessions? Keen to hear your views! #construction #brabners #constructionlaw #engineering #skillsshortage #skillsgap #buildinglinks #northwestconstruction #realestate
