💡 Personalisation is Key to Preventative Employee Wellbeing 💡 Beware the "one size fits all" approach. Reactive wellbeing support, like providing physiotherapy for back pain or escalation for a mental health issue, may fix this short term but often overlooks contributing lifestyle factors. 🔍 Understanding Risk Factors: Research shows that 94% of employees with health conditions were inactive, 53% had insufficient sleep, and 40% faced repeat conditions. Addressing risk factors and providing a holistic wellbeing solution that focuses on all areas is crucial to prevention. 🔄 Stepped Care Approach: A stepped care approach, focusing on underlying risks and proactively managing employee wellbeing, reduces costly clinical interventions and empowers employees to take preventive action. This leads to improved overall health and fewer recurring conditions. 💼 Client Success: About 79% of companies who incorporated wellbeing benefits covering nutrition, exercise, and gender-specific support saw unbroken attendance for 12 months or more, reducing overall claims costs. We let the data speak for itself. Personalised wellbeing solutions are crucial for preventing health issues before they become costly problems. By focusing on this, we can empower employees to lead healthier lives and reduce the need for reactive healthcare interventions. At Betterspace, this is exactly what we do. Our platform offers tailored wellbeing solutions that address the unique needs of each employee, from nutrition and exercise to financial and community driven resources, and more! Reach out to us to learn more about how we can help you and join us in creating a healthier, more productive workforce. #PersonalisedHealthcare #PreventativeCare #EmployeeWellbeing

In the world of employee wellbeing, we can see that traditional healthcare and benefits often miss the mark when it comes to meeting the diverse needs of modern workforces. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing insights on how personalised, preventative wellbeing strategies can transform employee benefits, boost productivity, and deliver real, tangible results for everyone involved. We're kicking off this series by exploring the shift from traditional health insurance plans to innovative wellbeing solutions that cater to every employee's unique needs. Personalised preventative wellbeing is transforming benefits strategy. Traditional private medical insurance (PMI) offerings focus on health screenings and monitoring chronic conditions. However, this approach often fails to address rising health complaints such as mental health disorders among young employees and musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. 🔄 Combatting Insurance Premium Increases With rising premium costs and a lack of engagement from younger employees, it's time to switch to solutions that incorporate a range of wellbeing benefits for all employees. Healthcare trusts or master trusts allow employers to tailor benefits and add specific wellbeing options suitable for the entire workforce. 📊 Employee Insights The latest HCML research, surveying over 500 employees and 200 employers, revealed employees want workplace support in areas like: 🍏 Nutrition (38%) 🏃♀️ Staying active (36%) 🛌 Sleeping well (36%) By addressing these health concerns, employers can reduce sickness absence, increase productivity, and achieve cost efficiencies through insurance premium tax (IPT) savings. Let’s take a proactive approach to employee wellbeing and create a healthier, more engaged workforce! #EmployeeWellbeing #PreventativeHealthcare #ProductivityBoost

As we look into the latest trends in workplace wellness, one standout development is the move towards personalised wellness plans tailored to individual employee needs. One-size-fits-all wellness programs often fall short. By leveraging AI and data analytics, companies now need to offer wellness plans that allow employees to choose what they want to focus on regarding their wellbeing, ensuring a more engaging and effective approach. Why personalise wellbeing plans? Here's a few reasons: 📈 Increased Engagement: When employees have the freedom to select wellness activities that resonate with their personal interests and health goals, they are more likely to participate consistently. 💜 Improved Health Outcomes: Tailored wellness plans ensure that each employee receives support suited to their unique needs. This leads to better health outcomes, reduced healthcare costs, and a healthier workforce overall. 👩💻 Enhanced Productivity: Healthier employees are more productive and less likely to take sick days. Personalised wellness plans help in reducing absenteeism and presenteeism by addressing individual health concerns. 🤝 Supportive Culture: Offering customised wellness options shows employees that their individual needs are valued. This fosters a culture of care and support, enhancing overall job satisfaction and loyalty. How can you ensure your employees have access to personalised wellbeing plans? 💻Leveraging Technology: Companies are using AI and data analytics to gather and analyse health data, which helps in creating customised wellness plans. This technology-driven approach ensures that wellness initiatives are both relevant and impactful. Continuous Monitoring: Implementing systems for continuous health monitoring allows for real-time adjustments to wellness plans, ensuring they remain effective and responsive to changing needs. 🗣 Employee Feedback: Regular feedback from employees helps refine wellness programs, making sure they are aligned with the evolving needs and preferences of the workforce. 🌐 Holistic Approach: Addressing various aspects of health—including physical, mental, and financial wellbeing—ensures comprehensive support for employees. Integrating personalised wellness plans into employee wellbeing strategies is an important point all companies need to take onboard to ensure they stay ahead in the competitive landscape. Let's prioritise personalised wellness and create a healthier, happier workplace! #EmployeeWellbeing #PersonalisedWellness #WorkplaceWellness

As we round off the insights from the latest Gallup report, it's clear that taking action on these findings is crucial for the wellbeing of our employees. The report highlights significant benefits for highly engaged teams compared to those with poor engagement: ☑ 78% lower absenteeism ☑ 21% - 51% lower turnover ☑ 26% lower shrinkage ☑ 63% fewer accidents ☑ 30% lower in quality defects ☑ 13% - 17% increase in productivity ☑ 23% better profitability ☑ 68% higher employee wellbeing Given that global engagement has stagnated and remains at just 10% in the UK, along with declining wellbeing and over 30% of UK workers planning to leave their current employer, it's time for business leaders to prioritise employee experience. A major factor in shaping this experience, according to the report, is the internal comms strategy. If you're unsure about the effectiveness of your current approach, a health check is an essential first step. This can set you on a path to enhanced engagement, clearer and more consistent messaging, and a stronger sense of connection within your organisation. Moreover, getting the right data is vital in making informed decisions. Personalising wellbeing initiatives to meet the unique needs of each employee can significantly enhance their engagement and satisfaction. Understanding the specific stressors, preferences, and health needs of your team enables you to tailor your approach, ensuring that each employee feels supported and valued. Regularly assessing and refining your wellbeing strategy is prudent. Having the right strategy for your employees not only boosts productivity but also fosters a positive and collaborative work environment, ultimately contributing to the overall success and wellbeing of both your organisation and its people. #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceWellbeing #GallupReport

As we discuss the latest Gallup report on the 'State of the Global Workplace', another very important finding was the pivotal role of managers in shaping employee engagement and overall life satisfaction. ➡ Managers and Mental Health Managers are generally more engaged and thriving compared to non-managers, thanks to higher pay, social status, and strong organisational support. However, they also face higher levels of stress, anger, sadness, and loneliness, making it vital to support their mental health. Engaged managers positively influence their teams. Countries with highly engaged managers often see twice the engagement levels in non-managers. Worryingly for the UK, we appear at the lower end of the curve, with relatively poor scores for both manager and non-manager engagement. ➡Why Managers Matter Effective managers build respectful, positive relationships with their teams, understanding each member’s strengths. They help employees find meaning and satisfaction in their work, significantly boosting productivity and enjoyment. Gallup’s research shows that 70% of team engagement variance is influenced by the manager. ➡Actionable Insights for Organisations Organisations must invest in the mental health and wellbeing of their managers. This includes: 🧠 Providing Mental Health Support: Ensure managers have access to mental health resources and support systems to help them cope with the pressures of their role. 📚 Training and Development: Offer training programs that equip managers with skills to handle stress and build resilience. 🤝 Promoting a Culture of Support: Foster an organisational culture where managers feel supported and valued, and encourage open communication about mental health. 👫 Implementing Peer Support Programs: Create opportunities for managers to connect and share experiences with their peers, reducing feelings of isolation. ➡Learn More We understand the importance of this topic, which is why it was a focus in our second Leaders Connect episode where HR leaders and wellbeing experts discussed it in depth. Gallup recently released their 2024 'State of the Global Workplace' report, revealing crucial insights into how our employees are feeling. This week, we'll be sharing and discussing these findings. Here’s what stood out, and why it matters for all of us striving to create better workplaces. Work and Wellbeing 💼 Despite global employee engagement being at record highs, both engagement and overall wellbeing stagnated in 2023. This indicates substantial challenges both at work and in personal lives, directly impacting productivity. The Loneliness Epidemic 😣 Globally, 20% of employees report daily loneliness, higher among those under 35. Remote employees report significantly higher loneliness (25%) than those on-site (16%). This underscores the need for a communications strategy that keeps remote workers feeling included. Addressing Loneliness 👬 Consider incorporating more social interactions, such as: ☕Regular virtual coffee breaks 🎮Online team-building activities 🐶Channels for non-work topics (pets, movies, books, etc.) 👥Supporting resource groups to bring together employees with common identities or interests 🌟Peer-to-peer recognition platforms The Impact on Mental Health 🧠 Work significantly influences daily emotions and life satisfaction. Employees who dislike their jobs often experience high levels of stress and negative emotions. Being disengaged at work can feel as bad or worse than being unemployed. Conversely, meaningful work and relationships lead to more enjoyment and fewer negative emotions. Half of the engaged employees report thriving in life overall. The UK’s Situation 🌐 The UK compares unfavorably to the global picture: - Only 10% of UK workers are engaged, compared to 23% globally. - 27% of UK workers feel daily sadness, compared to 17% across Europe. - UK daily stress increased from 38% to 40%, higher than Europe’s average of 37%. The Cost of Disengagement 💰 “Actively disengaged employees” make up 15% of the global workforce. They suffer more in overall wellbeing, feel less respected, and experience less daily enjoyment. Over half (54%) reported high stress the previous day. Why This Matters ❓ Employers can’t solve all employee woes, but focusing on health, happiness, and wellbeing is in everyone’s best interest. Engaged employees are more productive, have better mental health, and contribute to a positive workplace culture. Let’s commit to creating environments where every individual feels valued and connected. Together, we can combat loneliness, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellbeing, making our workplaces more productive and fulfilling for everyone. Stay tuned as we dive deeper into these insights throughout the week! #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceWellbeing #MentalHealth #EmployeeExperience #Gallup2024 #WellbeingAtWork
