Barnwood Trust is not your typical funder. We drive forward change so that disabled people and people with mental health conditions have choice of opportunities, access their rights, and are included where they live. We bring people together for a different conversation and explore big ideas. Through learning and collaboration, sharing research, and looking for better ways to fund, Barnwood makes a difference in #Gloucestershire. Watch this video to find out more.

This post highlights really clearly the differences between being not-racist and being anti-racist. This is crucial to our work as a Trust because we want all racial, ethnic, religious and cultural groups to be fully included in our engagement practices and in our work. We are currently co-designing a project with Barnwood Circle members about anti-racist engagement, and this is a useful resource that will assist us in our thinking together. Thank you, Race Equality Matters, for this brilliant post😊.
#Antiracist versus "Not Racist" ~Inspired by Ibram X Kendi, How to be Antiracist~ Antiracist -- 👁 Awareness: Being aware of your own biases, privileges, and how you benefit from white supremacy 👂 Listening: Leaning in and listening without centering your own experiences and whiteness; owning your mistakes and not getting defensive 📚 Education: Educating yourself on race, racism, and white supremacy; paying Black educators (not expecting free education) 🔊 Activism: Speaking out in your personal life, professional life, and social media, and calling people out/in as needed "Not Racist" -- 🙈 Colorblindness: Saying things such as "I don't see color" or "I don't care whether you are Black, white, or purple" 🗺 Proximity: Making comments like, "My husband/ kids/ uncle/ brother/ friend/ roommate is Black, so I can't be racist!" 🙉 Avoidance: Avoiding conversations about race and racism, and asserting that talking about racism perpetuates it 🔇 Silence: Staying silent when others make racist comments or jokes, noting that it's ok as long as you are not the one saying it #Antiracism #AntiracismEducation #AntiracistEducation POST CREDIT: Dr. Batsheva Guy ~Inspired by Ibram X Kendi, How to be Antiracist~ To access free resources to help you tackle race inequality register to join the REM network: http://ow.ly/VHJw50KK2z9

In 2022, we developed a one-off funding initiative, the Digital Inclusion Fund. This was aimed at addressing digital exclusion experienced by disabled people and people with mental health conditions. One of the organisations awarded funding was Insight Gloucestershire. The funding allowed them to employ a Sight Loss Advisor. This enabled them to carry on supporting people with sight loss to find the best digital solutions for their eye condition – assisting them to live more independently and to connect with family and friends. This animation shows how the funding has benefited people with sight loss in a range of ways. #Funding #DigitalInclusion Insight glos
