Last week I had a candidate on interview at 8am in Mainland Europe. By 2pm on the same day I`d been cc`d in on an offer letter and the candidate had verbally accepted the position. This was a 360 recruiter opportunity for a position we`d had on for a little while. Credit to the client for being decisive and getting the team involved in the meeting when everyone was in the office.  One process interviews, offers and acceptances are very rare , however strong recruiters continue to be hard to find so if you can speed up the interview process you have more chance of securing top talent. If your client is slow at the interview process,  moving interviews around and being indecisive it`s time to find some new clients. #Interviews #R2R #Recruitment

Congratulations to all who competed in the London Marathon on Sunday. The recruitment analogy is of course that you can`t just turn up and run a marathon, you need to train and of course you`ll get knock backs, but you pick yourself up and get on with your training. Similarly , you can`t be a successful recruiter by not putting in the hours and being organised and working hard either.  If things go wrong then start again. If you want a 9-5 job it`s the wrong career for you. To clarify this is Tower Bridge NOT London Bridge. I imagine running over it must be one of the highlights of the race.

Barker Black Spring Update The energy sector in the US and UK seems pretty slow and we are definitely seeing the 360 recruiter and business development managers being the most in demand candidate profile in all geographies. With regard new clients and clients that are growing it would seem to be those that are in the construction sector who have the most appetite to grow in the UK and US. Candidates this week out on interview are in locations as diverse as Amsterdam, Rotterdam , Houston, Tarragona (Spain) , Edinburgh, Melbourne, Qatar,  Bahrain and of course a few in the UK. In all parts of the world the best candidates continue to want some part remote working. Usually at least 2 days. The candidates who are organised, diligent, sales focused and who can back up their success continue to be the ones getting the offers. #R2R #GlobalRecruitment

UK MINIMUM WAGE The UK minimum wage as of 1st April is now £11.44 per hour. Based on a full time permanent contract of 40 hours per week this equates to just under £24K per annum .  A quick look at a well known UK job board shows many jobs still being advertised at starting salaries under this figure. . This is now illegal in the UK unless you are hiring 20 year olds and under .  I was placing trainee recruiters 20 years ago on £18K-£20K basics in London. Isn`t it time salaries moved up at the entry level within recruitment companies? If you are 21 and over and believe you are not being paid the minimum wage  in the first instance report this to your HR department. If this goes no where you can call/e mail ACAS and you`ll find the number on google. If you are recruiter in whatever sector in the UK and are arranging interviews for candidates aged 21 and over at under £11.44 per hour or £23800 per annum you are also complicit in not adhering to minimum wage requirements and both you and your client are breaking the law. #MinimumWage #TraineeRecruitment

Having spent my 50th birthday travelling across Texas last month a big thanks to all friends , clients and candidates that we met in Houston, Galveston, San Antonio, Fredericksburg and Dallas. It was a great trip and of course meeting everyone in person allows a much better understanding of how business is done in your amazing State.
