Great to host another fantastic Baringa Green Buildings & Transport forum, bringing together our network of innovators and collaborators across the energy space. Today's session explored the topic of 'How AI will unlock value from energy data', we talked about two main themes: 1. How data is beginning to transform operations and drive insights, and 2. How AI can be transformational to this data for businesses and what needs to be done for industry-wide mass-market adoption, with a fantastic speaker line up of Timothy Bannister from Rightmove, Andy Beggs from SMS, Patrick Caiger-Smith from geo (Green Energy Options), Alex Schoch from Octopus Energy and Daniel Anderton from Eliq My takeaways: 🏡 It is clear that green homes is starting to become front of mind as consumers are willing to pay more for energy efficient homes - keyword searches for heat pumps and solar are through the roof (pun intended!) - collecting data and analysing this to bring awareness to the customer will lead to understanding followed by action 💸 Investment into networks will be crucial, data & AI can help model and understand the demand, so considered elements such as BESS can be added to flatten the curve - will locational pricing become more important? 🧠 Smart meters are the lifeblood of data - companies need to elevate this data to empower customers via compelling propositions that offer the right kind of smart technology backed with suitable financing models to encourage engagement and mass market adoption 🗣 By using AI and machine learning to enable greater levels of consumer understanding and engagement, we are seeing a close to 7% reduction of energy consumption YoY. 😀 There are infinite use cases that can leverage AI - with early adoption via personalised TOU tariffs through to next level chatbots (we can see an increase in the customer happiness index by upto 19 points from interactions from a GenAI compared to a human agent!) Ultimate takeaway is that we need unified, structured data that is accessible and consistent across the whole industry, which can help incentivise the right signals and create simple propositions that give the choice back to the customer. We are still in the early stages of leveraging data and AI, but those who aren't moving or collaborating will be left behind - Lots of work still to do! 💪 Keep an eye out for our full write up on this coming soon - great to see the momentum building in this space!
