Exciting new short course... Please do share Ada (Anta) Braho, PhDAnna Westin Lara Bundock Kathryn Hodges Maria Mellins
Delighted to announce an exciting new short course for practitioners and researchers working with people who have experienced trauma. "Prior to the launch of our new MA in Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Sexual Violence: Trauma Informed Practice, we’re delighted to be offering a short course on Resources for Trauma-Informed Practice. This is a taster module for the full MA, and aims to provide a collective and tailored environment to reflect and develop individual practice, in order to understand the impact of trauma on practitioners and researchers. The short course focuses on finding different ways to support individuals in their workplace. The week-long module will run from Monday 8th July to Saturday 13th July 2024, and participants can attend the course on campus, as well as online via Zoom". So horrific
A frightening thing for women has just happened in Europe below the radar. The facts: On a cold evening in February 2020, a young woman was r*ped at the entrance of her apartment building in Basel, Switzerland. Two perpetrators were arrested. The adult aggressor was judged and found guilty in August 2020. Yet, in August 2021, Basel appeal court reduced the aggressor’s sentence because … the act lasted “ONLY 11 MINUTES.” The worst, on November 22, 2023, the Swiss Federal Court, the highest judicial authority, validated that giving a shorter sentence for a “short r*pe” was conformant to the law. So “short r*pe” is not a big deal anymore... I can’t believe this is happening in the 21st century in a civilized country. How humanly inept should be the judges to establish such a disturbing precedent?.. 11 minutes are enough. In fact, 1 minute is enough. Women’s life, health and dignity should not be measured in minutes. Gender-based violence should not be discarded based on its “duration”. Laws should not be interpreted without any regard to ethics, values, and common sense. ********************************************* UPDATE December 18: Céline Amaudruz, a member of the National Council of Swiss Parlament, has initiated the procedure for two law amendments: 1) To recognize that the act of r*pe itself should be enough for establishing the aggressor’s guilt. Repeated acts or excessive duration could lead to longer sentences, without undermining the gravity of «shorter» acts; 2) To remove conditional sentences for rape. Any rapist should be sentenced to a minimum of 6-12 months in prison. Finally, there is a politician with enough courage to challenge the absurdity of the system. I hope that Swiss political elite will follow her lead. #11minutes #GBV #EndViolence #BreakTheCycle #orangetheworld #16daysofactivism
