Ahead of #FIA2024 next week, Elizabeth Seward, our Head of Space Strategy and Market Development, spoke to The Times on growing the UK’s #space sector. With the World Economic Forum forecasting that the space economy will grow to $1.8 trillion by 2035, Elizabeth talks about what’s driving the global ‘new space race’ – access to space is now easier and commercially cheaper and #defence uses are becoming more prevalent. Here in the UK, the space sector has quadrupled in size since 2000. As Elizabeth explains, the nation is now at a tipping point. Collaboration between industry and government is vital to create a ‘joined-up’ view across space, and a national programme will be key to deliver unique capabilities for the UK, as well as build up our expertise and skills. Read the article for more thoughts from Elizabeth on the significance of our own contributions to space and the capabilities of our multi-sensor satellite cluster which can be used for civil and military purposes ➡ https://lnkd.in/eJgJBddz Interested in hearing more about our Azalea programme? We’ll be at Farnborough International Airshow next week – come along to Hall 5.

Misconceptions about necessary qualifications and the influence of education on career choices are significant factors deterring talent from entering the tech sector. Despite these barriers, there is a strong interest in tech careers. For those currently outside the sector, the top ranked motivating factors for switching to a career in tech were the higher than average earning potential, flexible or hybrid working opportunities and being offered additional financial support to pursue IT and technology training. Our new report in the #DrivingDigitalDiversity’ series looks at alternative routes into tech and what the industry can do to attract greater volumes of diverse talent. The #subsea threat to the UK is very real – and growing. Critical infrastructure on the seabed is increasingly being targeted, presenting a clear risk to national security. But how is this threat evolving and how can industry respond to give the UK and its allies the subsea intelligence advantage? Our Defence Business Development Director Chris Cook answers both of these questions in his latest blog, highlighting the need for an integrated approach and providing examples of industry innovation.
