About us

Aspiring Barristers is an organisation centred around supporting aspiring student barristers from underrepresented groups within the profession with their journey towards the Bar. The primary aim of Aspiring Barristers is two-fold: Firstly, to introduce increased diversity initiatives across the profession to foster the development of enhanced diversity at the Bar; and Secondly, to further promote an ethos of increased accessibility at the Bar irrespective of personal characteristics, background, or means, so that the profession remains a serious option open to all talented aspiring student barristers. Aspiring Barristers provides a variety of initiatives; each designed to meet its primary aims. Aspiring Barristers initiatives include its own: - Advocacy Enhancement Programme - Book Club - Seasonal Essay Competitions - International Students & Transferring Lawyers Support Service - Legal Content Writing Programme - Mentoring Scheme - Mini-Pupillage Scheme - Networking & Social Events - Annual Online Journal - Seminar Series - University Ambassador Programme Details about each Aspiring Barristers' initiative can be found at www.aspiringbarristers.org.     Employment and Commercial Law Barrister

    Guru Nanak Social Mobility Scholarships 2024 Celebrating the 555th birthday of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. This year’s competition is now open to all aspiring barristers from working class backgrounds, regardless of faith or non-faith. There is no essay this year – instead applicants must send a 5-10 min video presentation on: "Why I should be awarded a Guru Nanak Social Mobility Bar Scholarship" Up to five prized of £555 will be awarded and up to 12 months of mentoring. Some work experience may be offered and all genuine applicants will be offered assistance with pupillage forms for the 2025 pupillage application process. The deadline is 2 August 2024.     Penultimate Year Law Student | Aspiring Commercial Barrister | Legal Cheek Open University Campus Ambassador

    So last night I had the incredible opportunity with Ladies of Law ⚖️ to stand in front of live audience as part of my role as an ambassador with Aspiring Barristers to share my personal journey and my route to becoming a barrister as well as all the opportunities that Aspiring Barristers provide!⚖️🩵 It was my first time ever public speaking but Ella Watts & everyone else at the event made me feel so comfortable and were so incredibly supportive and I’m really proud of myself that I managed to pull it off! Public speaking is a huge part of the legal profession so I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and here’s to many more!💖 Thank you so much Ella Watts the incredible founder of Ladies of Law ⚖️ for giving me this opportunity and to my amazing friends Adelina Skarra and Sawera Ali for cheering me on your support hasn’t gone unnoticed🫶🏽

During this session, students will be presenting a 5-minute presentation on a topic of their choosing, with the opportunity to receive feedback on their advocacy performance from the session's Chair.     'Present a 5-minute presentation on a topic of your choosing. Students may present on a legal topic or a non-legal topic. For example, your pet, favourite food, music etc'. For Aspiring Barristers' next Public Speaking Club session, members will be participating in Aspiring Barristers' annual presentation week! The Public Speaking Club's annual presentation session provides aspiring student barristers with a unique opportunity to enhance their own oral advocacy skills within a relaxed environment alongside their peers and with the benefit of optional feedback from the session's Chair after presenting on a topic of their choosing.
