Insurtech UK today launches a new Advisory Panel convening senior leaders from across the insurance industry to progress strategic priorities for the future growth of UK insurtech. As insurtech matures, the new Advisory Panel represents the next step in this important undertaking that was first initiated by Tech Nation’s Insurtech Board and established by HM Treasury. Building on these strong foundations, the new Advisory Panel integrates the ambitions of this previous Insurtech Board into the core aims of Insurtech UK - to make the UK a global leader for insurtech innovation - and strengthens the collective voice of the insurtech community. Working together to address industry challenges and to amplify opportunities, the Advisory Panel will define and deliver projects in key areas that will have the greatest impact on the insurtech sector’s ongoing development. The member companies are: Ageas UK, Aon, Applied Systems, Aviva, IRL (Innovative Risk Labs), Konsileo, Laka, Lloyd's, McKinsey & Company, PARAGON INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE BROKERS LIMITED, Pikl Insurance, QBE Ventures, Rnwl and Swiss Re Panel members include: Graham Davis, Suzanne Lawson, Blake Redrup, Phil Evans, Ed Gaze, John Warburton, Tobias Taupitz, Rosie Denée, Leda Zaharieva, Eloise Morgan, Louise Birritteri, James Orchard, Peta Kilian, Goncalo de Vasconcelos, Ruta Mikiskaite and Rob Onoufriou Our CEO Melissa Collett said: “I’m delighted Insurtech UK can serve as an accelerant for leading institutions to work with scaling firms on a mission to drive insurance innovation forward further and faster. Alongside our recent Roadmap of policy recommendations for the new government to support the sector, the Panel demonstrates how industry itself is showing proactive leadership in its approach to advancing insurtech. The Advisory Panel’s key themes - from partnerships and capacity, to finance, skills and scaling - are all essential to unlocking future insurtech growth across the UK.” The group is lead by Victoria Roberts Find the full press release at https://lnkd.in/gjDshWVu #advisoryboard #insurtech

For some, a first job after graduation is merely a stepping stone to the next thing. For Morgan Braiden, SDET Manager, it was the first step on an exciting career path, one that she's continued on for six and a half years. We sat down to chat with Morgan about her journey in tech with Applied — check it out below to join the conversation 👇 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼? I am part of the quality Engineering team in Belfast, more specifically the SDET team. We are responsible for developing and maintaining automated test scripts to increase the quality and functionality of our products. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆? Growing up, my dad's influence from his industry experience motivated me to explore a career in the same field. While studying ICT in school, I had genuine enjoyment in the subject. However, it wasn't until my placement year at a Cyber Security research centre where I was testing apps that I discovered an interest in testing and decided to pursue it as a career. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲? At Applied, you learn so much, the team is good craic, and there is such a wealth of knowledge here you can learn from everyone. There's also a great work-life balance and our remote work environment allows for a lot of flexibility. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿? The best advice I was ever given was "if it is to be, it is up to me," which a principal at my school used to repeat at the start of every assembly, and it has remained ingrained in my memory and has really driven me in my career. If you're a woman thinking of pursuing a career in tech, don't be intimidated! If you enjoy it, pursue it. Most of the SDET teams at Applied are majority female and more women are going into management roles in tech.
