We always love to find out more about our colleagues🎉 Check out our most recent installment of Ask & Answer below 👇
This week, we caught up with Eamonn Dwyer, General Manager at Good Herdsmen, the organic arm of ABP Group What was your dream job when you were young? Film director - but sadly Steven Spielberg got there first. Tell us about your route to your current role I started working at ABP Group in 2000, in the fledgling CPM facility in ABP Waterford. In 2001, the CPM production relocated to ABP Cahir in Co Tipperary and I moved with it. I worked as CPM Production Supervisor for 18 months and subsequently moved back to ABP Waterford in 2002, where I held various production supervisor roles in the abattoir and boning hall. In 2007, I was offered the opportunity to work in the boning hall office in ABP Bandon. I worked there until 2010, when I returned to ABP Cahir to work in the boning hall office there. In 2016, I went into the General Manager job in Good Herdsmen and I remain in that role. What is the highlight of your career so far? My career in ABP has given me wide-ranging experience across the meat business and I have always been grateful for the opportunities extended to me. I have been very fortunate to have worked with great teams of people on different sites over the years. Would you recommend the agri-food industry to someone starting their career? Yes, I would. There are a variety of career pathways. A great benefit of working at an international company like ABP are the broad range of opportunities, both at home and abroad, and access to further training and sponsorship. It has been my experience that the company very much values hard-working, competent and loyal staff. Who do you look up to in life? I would have been an admirer of the late Mícheál O’Muircheartaigh, the GAA sports commentator who passed away recently. He brought professionalism and great humour to his sports commentaries and always treated players with respect. May he rest in peace. Any interesting hobbies? My football playing days are behind me - the ankle won’t stand up to it anymore. I enjoy watching sport and am a Liverpool FC fan. Quick-fire questions - Early bird or night owl? Early bird - Beef or lamb? Beef, of course - organic preferably! - Book or boxset? Boxset - Sun holiday or ski trip? Sun holiday - Rave or rock music? Rock music - I’m looking forward to the upcoming AC/DC concert in Croke Park in Dublin in August #TeamABP #ThoughtLeadership #OurPeople
