Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining as a speaker virtually and felt as if I was right there in the room with everyone in Uganda, thanks to the power of technology and Zoom calls.
Yesterday's #MentalWellnessSeries hosted by The American Center Kampala under the #AmericanEmbassy in Uganda was an inspiring event during Mental Health Month. 💫
As you can see from the pictures, we were a team of passionate speakers sharing our personal stories and best practices. Isaac Adams Mayanja, CEO of AIM Corporate Wellbeing Consults, served as our moderator. Latifat Hassan, DNP, APRN-BC, from the American Embassy in Uganda, provided invaluable workplace health insights.
Key Takeaways and Tips:
Creating Work-Life Balance: Balance is something you create, not find. It involves managing your job and personal life to feel satisfied and healthy. Work-life integration recognizes the blend of work and personal life, aiming for harmony.
Recognizing Unhealthy Balance: Constant fatigue, frequent overtime, irritability, and difficulty focusing can lead to stress and burnout. It's essential to recognize these signs and take steps to address them.
Maintaining Balance: Learn to say NO and protect your time and energy. Set clear boundaries between work and personal life. Practice mindfulness to stay present and reduce stress. Prioritize self-care and relaxation to recharge.
For Leaders: Create a culture that cares for employees and recognizes mental health. Educate leaders on the importance of mental health and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs). Promote open communication, lead by example, check in with your team regularly, and provide resources to support employees' well-being.
We are responsible for creating healthy and safe work environments. Let’s continue supporting each other and advancing the conversation around mental wellness in our workplaces.
