Last week I was part of the team from Agro Supply in Teso sub region in the districts of Amuria, Bukedea, Kapelebyong, and Soroti. This visit was aimed at empowering small holder farmers and Agro Supply Village Agents with agromical skills and Lay Away System knowledge. The meeting focused on two key areas. 1. Teaching small holder farmers which variety of seed to plant and in which season considering the fact that Teso sub region experiences minimal amount of rain. We had set up demonstration gardens in those areas before. For example in the pictorials you will see down, one maize variety called Tembo 73 produced 766 grains in one cob, followed by Duma 419 with about 680 grains and lastly Sungura which had 602 grains in a cob. All these varieties have different maturity periods and it's important to emphasize that to farmers for them to make the right decision before planting. 2. Farmers were given knowledge on the usage of our digital platforms, including the Agro Supply Layaway system to help them access quality inputs, receive agronomy advice, and improve crop production. The main goal is to make agricultural inputs more accessible to local farmers which will improve their livelihoods as they slowly move out of poverty and improve on their food security. A few years ago, when I founded Agro Supply, our mission was very clear: we wanted to move smallholder farmers out of poverty and build capacity for Africa to feed ourselves and the rest of the world. Our goal was to achieve this by using technology. We aimed to build the largest network of profitable, sustainable farmers. To achieve this, we identified three key steps: 1. Distribution of inputs 2. Training of these farmers 3. Offering a ready market to our farmers Our work initially started with 20 farmers and gradually expanded to 100 farmers. Along the way, we adopted technology by creating a "save to buy Layaway" system that allowed farmers to save and invest in inputs. We also developed a tech system to efficiently train and manage farmers and our agents. As we continued to grow, we took on a huge responsibility. We have just begun the construction of a large grain processing facility in Uganda. This facility will enable us to control the entire agricultural value chain, from production to offering training and a good market to our farmers. We will aggregate these grains, remove aflatoxin, and sell the clean, aflatoxin-free grain to African manufacturers. On the other hand, we will also carry out milling and fortify the flour, adding additional nutritional value such as vitamins, protein, and zinc to the common flour. We plan to sell this locally to boost the nutritional needs for our farmers. As you can see, our plan is to move smallholder farmers out of poverty and build capacity for Africa to feed ourselves and the rest of the world.

We're excited to share one of the major highlights of the past week for us at Agro Supply! Our team recently visited Amuria, Bukedea, Kapelebyong, and Soroti Districts in Eastern Uganda to empower smallholder farmers and Agro Supply Village Agents with essential skills. These sessions focused on using our digital platforms, including the Agro Supply Layaway system, to help farmers access quality inputs, receive agronomy advice, and improve crop production. We also visited demo farms to observe the impressive performance of different maize varieties. By enhancing their ability to utilize mobile layaway systems, we're making agricultural inputs more accessible to local farmers, thereby improving their livelihoods.
