EASL School: Alcohol-related liver disease: diagnosis, risk stratification and management
This EASL school is dedicated to chronic alcohol related liver disease, covering all aspects of the patient’s journey through the healthcare system. From alcohol’s impact on citizens in the society, to early disease detection, biomarkers used in healthcare pathways from primary to secondary care, global and specialised interventions, and new innovations to improve patient management. With the school, we aim to combat the stigma and taboo associated with the harmful effects of alcohol, and replace it with fully updated and high-quality evidence highlighting the many opportunities for improving our patient’s life and health.
The format of the school based on reversed-classroom format will be a platform for participants to discuss best-practice, gaps in knowledge, opportunities and barriers towards effective healthcare pathways. The topics will center around biomarkers and interventions: (1) existing and future diagnostic, monitoring and prognostic biomarkers, their applications, pitfalls and technical concepts. (2) existing and future interventions, whether pharmacological, psychosocial, or dietary, with a discussion of barriers and opportunities for giving patients’ access to effective treatments.

It is a MUST event and you should be there! The motto of the ECP2024‚ Multidimensional Pathology – Cornerstone of modern diagnostics refl ects the fact that Pathology as no other medical discipline has integrated novel technologies – such as electron microscopy, immunohistology, molecular diagnostics and recently computational pathology (and more to come) – into its portfolio while safely relying on classical histology in its broad spectrum of diagnostic services. By this, Pathology has gained a position as one of the forefront innovation drivers in medicine and a key player in medical decision making. ECP2024 is dedicated to provide up-to-date insight into the whole spectrum of modern diagnostic and translational tools and achievements that characterize Pathology and its contribution to innovative diagnostics. The ESP working groups and affi liated Societies are planning excellent state-of-the art organ and topic-based sessions providing the latest developments in diagnostic Pathology. Special sessions focusing on hot topics and recent research fi ndings are organised jointly with our cooperating scientifi c societies. Keynote lectures held by internationally recognized experts will provide the cutting edge of Pathology, Research and Development and all these highlights are complemented by many oral free, poster and educational sessions which provide ample possibilities for presentation of your own research. Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We are delighted to invite you to the XXXVIIth Workshop of the European Helicobacter and Microbiota Study Group (EHMSG), which will take place in Porto, Portugal, from 12th to 14th September, 2024.
The EHMSG is a multidisciplinary group of scientists and clinicians who share a common interest in the field of Helicobacter and microbiota research. Our annual workshop is a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, experience, and ideas on the latest advances and challenges in this dynamic and rapidly evolving area.
The scientific program of the workshop will cover a wide range of topics, including the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of Helicobacter and microbiota-associated diseases, the molecular mechanisms and host-microbe interactions underlying these conditions, and the impact of Helicobacter and microbiota on inflammation, immunity, and cancer. The workshop will feature keynote lectures, oral and poster presentations, and interactive sessions with experts in the field.
The workshop will also offer you the opportunity to discover the beautiful city of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Porto is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, its stunning architecture, its vibrant nightlife, and its famous port wine. You will be able to enjoy the charming riverside area of Cais da Ribeira, the majestic Torre dos Clérigos, the impressive Palácio da Bolsa, and the picturesque Vila Nova de Gaia, where you can visit the port wine cellars and taste the different varieties of this exquisite drink.

ECCMID takes place annually in the spring and is recognized by academia, the clinical setting and industry as the largest European congress for the presentation and discussion of research in the fields of clinical microbiology and infection. The first European Congress of Clinical Microbiology (ECCM) was organised in 1983 in Bologna. After the Society's adoption of infectious diseases in the late eighties, the first ECCMID was held in 1991 in Oslo. Initially a biannual congress, ECCMID became an annual event after 1999 in Berlin. The venues of ECCMID have been systematically selected to ensure that the congress is easily accessible to colleagues from different areas of Europe on a rotating basis. Since its initiation, ECCMID has grown in size and stature and now attracts around 10,000 participants every year. The number of submitted abstracts has risen to over 3,000 of which 65% are accepted for oral or poster presentation. ECCMID is a congress that industry supports through sponsored symposia as well as a large and comprehensive exhibition of laboratory equipment, diagnostic tools and pharmaceutical products.
