UNDP in Ukraine has delivered cutting-edge rehabilitation equipment to the UNBROKEN centers in Lviv, significantly enhancing rehabilitation services for those affected by the war. The equipment includes a high-tech robotic milling machine and limb scanners for the Prosthetics and Orthopedics Center which allows for the automatic creation of prosthetic limb sockets after scanning, reducing production time by five times, as well as specialized eye prosthetic kits for St. Luke’s Hospital enabling the creation of high-quality eye prosthetics, addressing the growing need for these services due to war-related injuries. 💪 This initiative not only improves the quality of rehabilitation services but also contributes to the long-term resilience and well-being of patients. A school you want to go to ❤ 🇪🇺🇺🇳 This is the Radsadivskyi Lyceum in Mykolaiv Oblast, which was renovated with support from the European Union (EU) and UNDP. Thanks to the “EU4UASchools: Build Back Better” project, we have sustained major renovation of the lyceum so that 136 students and 19 teachers will return to school in a comfortable environment on 1 September. The Radsadivskyi Lyceum will celebrate its 52nd anniversary with a renewed central porch, facade, interior entrance, and lobby, renovated corridors, classrooms, and a replaced roof. In addition, the lyceum will soon receive new furniture — desks, chairs, bookcases and blackboards. The facility was renovated in line with the Build Back Better principle, which means compliance with inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and energy efficiency standards. 📷Photo credit: Dmytro Sazonov / UNDP in Ukraine The Lyceum was renovated as part of the “EU4UASchools: Build Back Better” project, which is being implemented by UNDP in Ukraine, with financial support from the EU. #EU4UASchools

The forum titled "Consolidating Efforts for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises in Ternopil Region" summarised the results of five months of work on developing business support infrastructure in the region.    The event hosted dozens of entrepreneurs, local authorities representatives and business sector leaders, to discuss:    🔹 the outcomes of the project on developing business advisory points;  🔹 business opportunities and the specifics of the operation of entrepreneurs' advisory points;  🔹 successful examples of starting and developing one's own business from entrepreneurs in Ternopil communities;  🔹 opportunities for gaining external financing;  🔹 legislation related to occupational safety and consumer rights protection, advertising, market surveillance, and pricing, along with much other relevant information.     "We plan to spread the experience of this project to other regions. I am confident that the results of our work will not only benefit local businesses but also resonate with other communities," says Maksym Boroda, UNDP Project Manager in Ukraine.     The event was organised by the NGO "InSource" team as part of the "Enhanced Partnership for Sustainable Recovery" project, funded by the Swedish government represented by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and implemented by UNDP in Ukraine.     Photo credit: Bohdana Kapitsa Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine Sida

"I believe that everyone's duty now is not just to do what you can, but also what is necessary. The demand for tractor drivers here is enormous! That's why I didn't think long before agreeing to start learning right away", says Olena, a volunteer turned future tractor driver, emphasizing the importance of stepping into a new role. In the war-torn town of Snihurivka, 70 kilometers from the frontline city of Mykolaiv, a groundbreaking initiative is training women as tractor drivers — a role traditionally dominated by men. This effort, supported by UNDP and the Government of Denmark, is part of a larger strategy to address the severe shortage of agricultural workers caused by the ongoing war. With a population of around 10,000, the town was known as an agricultural area, not only because of its expansive fields and favorable climate for growing vegetables, but because, until 2022, almost every family had at least one member working in agriculture. However, over eight months of occupation, the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, thousands of hectares of fields being mined, and the ongoing full-scale war have drastically altered this statistic. The demined fields now lie fallow, with no one to cultivate them. There are seven of them — Nadiya, Tetiana, Natalia, Viktoria, Maria, Karyn and Olena. The youngest is 18, and the oldest 47. They’re all are different: One drives a minibus and is raising three children, one is a volunteer, and another breeds goats. What do they have in common? Steering wheels, fields, and an unshakable desire to learn a new profession and help their country. The story of Ukraine's digital transformation has been included in the new UNDP report “Making Progress on SDG 16: Unlocking the Power of Example”! 🔥 The report showcases examples of policies and initiatives from 16 countries around the world that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The example of Ukraine is the first. The report details: ⚙️ The digital products the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine deployed at the beginning of the full-scale invasion to support citizens and give them quick and safe access to the government assistance they needed; 🛡️ How Ukraine is digitising public administration, making it more people-centric and inclusive, even in the face of the full-scale war, and; 💻 How all efforts to digitise and boost the accessibility of services and the digital literacy of citizens have resulted in increasing the use of electronic services. Read more in the full report from the UNDP Global Policy Centre for Governance 👉 https://go.undp.org/4TN We’re proud to be a part of this important work of digital development! The UNDP, funded by Sweden, has been steadfastly supporting the government in developing new electronic services since the outbreak of the full-scale war. Since the beginning of 2022, we have helped to develop services: 📲 for internally displaced persons; 📲 for veterans. Among them is the veteran’s electronic ID service in the Diia e-government platform; 📲 on adoption. In total, since 2021 we’ve supported the creation of 44 electronic services that have been used by 35 million users! 🔥 And we’re not stopping there. We’re continuing to help develop digitalisation within the framework of the DIA Support Project, with funding from Sweden (Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine). We’re committed to supporting the government in creating convenient electronic tools for Ukrainians – especially for the most vulnerable groups. 🤝

"Almost every family here either lost their house or it was seriously damaged. And some lost relatives," says Yuliia, a resident of Novoselivka village, one of the hardest-hit areas in Chernihiv Oblast during the full-scale Russian invasion. Though 90% of the village's buildings are heavily damaged, residents are staying put, pooling their efforts for recovery. We gathered testimonials from locals in December 2023, coinciding with the launch of recovery efforts in Chernihiv Oblast under a UNDP project funded by Japan - The Government of Japan. Following non-technical surveys to ensure safety from explosive ordnance, UNDP led the sorting and removal of 47,000 tons of demolition waste from Novoselivka and 23 other settlements in Chernihiv Oblast, paving the way for the region's reconstruction. 🟩 Social cohesion in Ukraine remains strong and has not experienced major changes since 2023. 🟩 Sense of civic responsibility is high, with 73% feeling responsible for the future of the country. 🟩 Trust in the Army, the State Emergency Service, and non-governmental organizations remains consistently high. The President is trusted by 63% of respondents. 🟩 Trust in all other central institutions is very low. 🟩 Economic indicators of IDPs appear to be improving, though sense of belonging at local level displays a downward trend. These are the results of the third wave of SHARP, which have been presented in Kyiv. SHARP is a research tool for assessing Ukrainians’ level of resilience in conditions of full-scale war. The key results of SHARP can be found here: https://lnkd.in/g4D_e7KG Partners: The Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU), the Centre for Sustainable Peace and Democratic Development (SeeD), the USAID-funded Democratic Governance East (DG East), USAID’s Transformation Communications Activity (TCA) and the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine.
