Sherri Papini Breaks Silence, Will Address Her Kidnapping Hoax for First Time in Investigation Discovery Series
Investigation Discovery announced on Monday that Sherri Papini, who was arrested in 2022 for orchestrating her own 2016 kidnapping, will tell her story for the first time in a docuseries set to debut in 2025.
“Sherri Papini drew worldwide attention when she went missing and then again, when she returned,” Investigation Discovery president Jason Sarlanis said in a statement. “While many perspectives have been told, there is one point of view that the world hasn’t heard and that is from Sherri herself. Investigation Discovery will present a new side of Sherri Papini’s case — told by her in her own words.”
The multi-part docuseries will not only feature exclusive interviews with Papini, it will also include never-before-seen archival footage, and new interviews with those close to the investigation.
In 2016, Papini disappeared from her California community while out for a run. Three weeks later, Papini resurfaced on the side of the road, chained up and covered in bruises. She claimed she had been kidnapped, but authorities questioned the validity of her story. Papini was ultimately arrested in 2022 on charges that the kidnapping was an orchestrated hoax and later signed a plea deal. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison for lying to a federal officer.
Papini’s story was recently examined in Hulu’s, Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini, but Papini did not participate. Instead, the three-part docuseries — which was released in June — centered on her then-husband, Keith, who was not involved with the hoax. Her story was also adapted for a 2023 Lifetime TV movie, Hoax: The Kidnapping of Sherri Papini, starring Jaime King as Papini.
Why? Why does American culture need this? We have people who can’t go to a doctor or get medicine, but let’s put this story at there? Let’s pay her? (And I’m sure she’s getting paid.) WHYYYYY??????

She’s a LIAR. I don’t believe anything she says nor will I help her earn money off her crimes. I feel sorry for her family members, her ex-husband and her children.
There are so many decent people that devote their time to help the homeless, they help the disabled, they help the elderly, they help animals and it is those people that deserve to be interviewed and praised.
The true crime genre doesn’t do that, though. Maybe they should expose the people who claim to be doing that when they actually are stealing the money… There was recently a woman who was very well known on Instagram with lots of followers, getting tons of denotations for her horse rescue. Only it turned out she was using the money for vacations and let the horses suffer and die. There was a big court case, lots of real rescues had to step in to take the surviving animals… Maybe if cases like that got more press people would be more careful who they support.
Cases like this lady are pretty meaningless, though. There’s nothing to learn from it. Investigators apparently didn’t get it wrong for once, but the last thing we need them “learning” is to try to blame kidnappings on the victims. They really like blaming the victim enough already.
