This year’s three-night, yet-to-be-titled crossover event will air Sunday, Dec. 9 through Tuesday, Dec. 11, as follows:
Sunday at 8/7c: The Flash (special night)
Monday at 8/7c: Arrow
Tuesday at 8/7c: Supergirl (special night)
Wait, what do you mean by “special nights”…?
This fall, Supergirl moves to Sunday nights at 8 pm, where it will lead into the freshman reboot Charmed.
But… because of how the crossover event unfolds, Supergirl and The Flash will trade time slots for that one week only, with the scarlet speedster starting things off on Sunday, Dec. 9.
Once again, for those in the back:
Sunday at 8/7c: The Flash (special night)
Monday at 8/7c: Arrow
Tuesday at 8/7c: Supergirl (special night)
Although Arrow‘s own 100th episode got folded into 2016’s “Invasion!” crossover event, The Flash will mark its milestone separately the week prior, on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
Having previously helped fend off an “Invasion!” and deal with the “Crisis on Earth-X,” the cast of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will not be taking part in this year’s crossover, for reasons touched on in this San Diego Comic-Con Q&A.
(And before someone asks, no, Black Lightning still isn’t a formal part of the Arrowverse.)
After battling aliens and then Nazis from another Earth, “We can’t go bigger,” Arrow‘s Stephen Amell told TVLine in this Upfronts red carpet Q&A. Instead, this year’s threat is “more specific.” (A bit more on that later in the slideshow….)
As touted in May at The CW’s Upfronts presentation, Batwoman will mix it up with Green Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. Filling the role of the Gotham-based vigilante aka Kate Kane is Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black, The Meg). Read about the LBGT actress’ reaction.
Tyler Hoechlin will reprise his role as Supergirl/Kara Danvers’ cousin, Superman/Clark Kent, in all three of the crossover episodes. And this time, he’s not alone….
Acccompanying Clark on his latest super adventure will be intrepid reporter Lois Lane, played by Grimm‘s Elizabeth Tulloch.
John Wesley Shipp will portray his own, 1990s version of The Flash.
Cassandra Jean Amell (aka Stephen Amell’s real-life wife) will appear in the crossover as Nora Fries, the wife of the notorious Mr. Freeze — though the DC Comics villain himself will not be seen.
Though it’s unclear if he is the Big Bad, Jeremy Davies (Lost, Justified) is set to play John Deegan, a doctor at the Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
Per The CW, Dr. Deegan’s “machinations will draw Green Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl to Gotham City” — which, coupled with Batwoman’s involvement, points to much of the crossover action taking place in the gritty DC Comics burg.
Whatever is in store for Oliver, it required a full cast of Stephen Amell’s face to be made in preparation.
Following 2016’s “Invasion!” and 2017’s “Crisis on Earth-X” themes, this year’s event is subtitled “Elseworlds,” with the promise that “Chaos is coming.” “Elseworlds” in DC Comics partlance was a special imprint that dealt with stories that existed independent of the larger continuity.
LaMonica Garrett (Designated Survivor) will appear in the crossover as Mar Novu aka The Monitor, “an extraterrestrial being of infinite power.” In DC Comics lore, Monitors are charged with observing the Multiverse, occasionally intervening in times of crisis.
Bob Frazer (The Man in the High Castle, The 100) will guest-star as Arkham Asylum inmate Roger Hayden, who in the DC Comics’ Prime Earth universe became Psycho-Pirate.
Ruby Rose as Batwoman will look like this.
Tylcer Hoechlin’s Superman will don the black version of the suit, while Barry and Oliver appear to be dressed as bikers…?!
Based on the official poster, Barry and Oliver’s destinies will be “rewritten.” Meaning….
Oliver, for instance, will wake up to discover he is Barry Allen/The Flash, and thus is the object of Iris West’s affection (watch promo)….
…while Barry finds himself sparring with Diggle, as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (watch promo)….
…and Kara for some reason has been imprisoned by her sister Alex (watch promo).
Official crossover photos confirm that a trip to Smallville — using some of the Tom Welling-starring TV series’ original locations — is on tap. Well, in a Nov. 29 Facebook video, Arrow‘s Stephen Amell added that for Smallville fans, “there is a treat for you that… you might want to put down rubber sheets, because quite frankly you might piss your pants.”
