Ryan Gosling is more than Kenough.
The actor graced the Oscars stage Sunday to perform a wowing rendition of the Barbie song “I’m Just Ken,” which was up for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
In addition to performing with writer Mark Ronson, bonus Kens Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir joined Gosling for the rousing and colorful performance, while Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash popped up for a killer surprise solo. The actor later jumped into the crowd for a group singalong with director Greta Gerwig, stars Margot Robbie and America Ferrera, and Poor Things’ Emma Stone.
See the Kens in action below.
Also competing in the Best Original Song category were “The Fire Inside” (from Flamin’ Hot), “It Never Went Away” (American Symphony) and “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” (Killers of the Flower Moon), but it was another Barbie track, “What Was I Made For?”, that took home the gold. (Watch Billie Eilish’s performance here.)
Gosling himself was nominated for Best Supporting Actor against Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Robert De Niro (Killers of the Flower Moon), Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer) and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things), but the trophy this time went home with Downey Jr.
Barbie’s other nominations included Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (America Ferrera), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
Director Greta Gerwig and lead actress Margot Robbie were two of the night’s biggest snubs (for Best Director and Best Actress, respectively), though Gerwig did receive one nomination for writing via the Adapted Screenplay category.

Loved it!
You forgot to mention Scott Evans!!
This was the best part of the night so far! I loved it!
I didn’t see the movie and I don’t plan to and I don’t really love that song, but I love Ryan Gosling! And that was definitely the best part of the Oscars so far! I still can’t believe that song was nominated for an Oscar though.
If you do ever decide to see the movie, you might eventually see the depth & brilliance of it within the context of the film itself.
That was fantastic!
What a fun performance! It exceeded my expectations! I love that Ryan involved the audience and that the other Kens were involved. Loved everything about it!
It took me back to my middle school years when I was obsessed with the Mickey Mouse Club. It was great – better than the sequence in the movie!
Slash and Wolfie Van Halen was outstanding!
Ryan was fantastic and bringing in the audience was inspired. Margot and Emma and America and everyone in the place thought they were at the after party. They were having such a great time. That was just plain fun!!
The was amazing! Best part of The Oscars for me
Lost track how many times I watched it – Ryan was phenomenal!
HM for next week’s Performer of the Week?
Do you mean Ryan Gosling for Performer of the Week? If you do, I second that!! By the way, who was his date?
His sister
HM was referring to Honorable Mention … should have spelled it out … oops
Everyone’s mentioning Slash on guitar – Wolfgang Van Halen was there, too – just like on the soundtrack! And they can give 100 Oscars to other films, Barbie was the greatest, funnest movie of 2023!
It was well worth it to sit through a mostly boring ceremony just to see this. Fantastic!
Absolutely LOVED Ryan’s “Just Ken” performance last night! And his pink suit – just fabulous!!! I so loved the movie – took 5 of my best girlfriends to see it on Aug. 7 for my “Barbie Dream Birthday Party” last year! We all had a GREAT time, and we all loved the movie- it was so not what we expected – so intelligent, fun and glamorous! Perfect! Will be one of my top 5 favorite movies ever!!! (One of my friends even gave me a real “Party Barbie doll” – so fabulous, as I never had a real Barbie doll when I was a child!)
The show was as good as the bob hope shows year
this was the stand out performance of the night, I keep rewatching it over and over. The performance of the week for me.
Ryan Gosling’s performance was truly entertaining and fun!
Ryan Gosling stole the Oscars. Let Oppenheimer take the statues. Ryan – and Barbie – still brought the fun!
.
Loved the homage to Marilyn Monroe and her “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” scene.
.
Ryan’s got swagger! And he definitely livened the joint up. As did Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen and all the additional Kens!
