Having already bolstered the heroic ranks with Batwoman, Superman and Lois Lane, it now appears that this fall’s Arrowverse crossover event has found its Big Bad.
TVLine has learned that Lost alum Jeremy Davies — who is always so excellent at playing the manically brilliant, the slightly off-kilter — has joined the three-night, Legends-less event in the role of John Deegan, a doctor at the Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
Dr. Deegan, though, just might be crazier than the inmates he treats, and as such his machinations will draw Green Arrow (played by Stephen Amell), The Flash (Grant Gustin) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) to Gotham City. And that, I believe, is the first indication we have had that a sizeable chunk of the crossover action (if not the final showdown) will take place on Batwoman’s home turf.

In addition to his run as Lost‘s Dr. Daniel Faraday, Davies’ previous TV credits include Justified, Sleepy Hollow, Hannibal, Constantine and an episode of American Gods.
As previously reported, this year’s Arrowverse crossover event will air Sunday, Dec. 9 through Tuesday, Dec. 11, comprised of the ninth episodes of The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl‘s new seasons. Guest stars Ruby Rose (as Batwoman/Kate Kane) Tyler Hoechlin (reprising his role as Supergirl‘s Superman/Clark Kent), Grimm‘s Elizabeth Tulloch (as Lois Lane) and Cassandra Jean Amell (as Mr. Freeze’s wife, Nora).

Not sure why Flash, Supergirl, and Superman are required to deal with a nutty human doctor, but I guess we will find out.
Indeed we will!
My guess it’s Victor fies pretending to be someone else to use the lunatics in his experments!
But can he feel anything?
he is from comics character ??
Seems to be a character created for the shows. The only other John Deegan I could find is a character in an Irish soap opera Fair City.
This crossover just seems all over the place. You have unknown human villains and street level heroes, but then you also have some of the most powerful heroes around. How these things will work together is kind of a mystery. Last two crossovers went appropriately big, but the threat would have to be big this time too if it requires Superman, Supergirl, and Flash.
Amell said the crossover threat this year wouldn’t be “bigger” but “more specific” (at 3:00 mark): https://tvline.com/2018/05/19/arrow-season-7-spoilers-stephen-amell-oliver-prison-longbow-hunters/
I’m hoping it’s more alter-ego based that superhero. Reporters, forensic scientist, and strategic guy trying to solve a mystery. With the appropriate amount of action of course.
John Deegan…John Dee…Dr. Destiny?
So, how is the Constantine connection going to work here? Constantine has been brought into the fold through LoT, where it was established that his show was still part of the canon, despite not being produced by the CW.
So erm… how can he portray a different character here than the one he previously played there, especially since none of them are bit parts. Are we to expect another “She looks like my cousin” lampshade hanging?
Just ignore it. The MCU does this too. For example, in Captain America: Civil War, Alfre Woodard played a grieving mom whose blames the Avengers for the death of her son (during Age of Ultron). However, she is best known for being in Luke Cage. Agents of SHIELD also cast Powers Boothe who had a role in The Avengers, and since everybody picked up on that realized they could ret-con him into being the same character.
So yeah, wouldn’t give it too much thought. Constantine and the Legends won’t even be around this time out.
+175 TVLine Power User points, especially for the Legends-less xover mention (no cash value)
Powers Boothe’s character in AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.LD. was the same guy be played in THE AVENGERS. AoS established that he was a powerful defense contractor who had served on the World Security Council.
Are we to assume Gotham no longer holds the exclusive rights to the Batman universe?
Did they really ever? Warner Bros has refused to let them use the name ‘Joker’ and his exact likeness, which is why they’ve been skirting around calling Jerome/Jeremiah the show’s Joker all these years.
So no LoT and no Black Lightning in the Xover? That’s surprising… And one less reason for me to keep up with BL.
Why? If anything, Legends and BL are lucky to avoid this and just be able to focus on their own plot lines.
One episode break doesn’t harm any of the show’s own plot lines. It’s generally more than worth it for the ratings boost.
I love the crossovers, but how can you have action in Gotham without Batman?
Exactly!! I think they are going to use the same excuse that was used in the birds of prey tv show from a couple years ago. That show took place in Gotham and there excuse was that Batman/Bruce Wayne has been missing for many years.
I just might go back to watching the Arrow(verse) with Davis as big baddy boi… i love him!
I’m really looking forward to this, though I wish the Batwoman series was going to be on the DC Universe rather than CW.
They are opting for Batgirl instead. And it would be confusing to people to have them both.
