Cassandra Jean Amell Joins Arrowverse Crossover as Mr. Freeze’s Wife
The Arrowverse crossover is keeping it in the family with its latest addition: Cassandra Jean Amell — the real-life wife of Arrow lead Stephen Amell — will play Nora Fries, the wife of the classic DC Comics villain Mr. Freeze, in the multi-show event, TVLine has learned.
Will the baddie Mr. Freeze himself be appearing in the crossover? A spokesperson for Warner Bros. TV tells TVLine that the extremely chill villain, who on Gotham for example has been played by Nathan Darrow, will not be making an appearance. (Arnold Schwarzenegger also took on the cool role in the 1997 movie Batman & Robin.)
As announced three weeks ago, this season’s three-night, Legends-less event — kicking off Sunday, Dec. 9, with a special airing of The Flash — will not only introduce viewers to Kate Kane aka Gotham vigilante Batwoman (played by Orange Is the New Black’s Ruby Rose), but Superman (Supergirl’s Tyler Hoechlin) will return to the heroic fray as well. The crossover will also introduce Clark Kent’s main squeeze, Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, who will be portrayed by Grimm vet Elizabeth Tulloch, as revealed earlier on Friday morning.
A former America’s Next Top Model contestant, Cassandra Jean Amell has previously guest-starred on Hart of Dixie, CSI: NY, Mad Men and One Tree Hill.
Hopefully she can act. I remember when Kevin Sorbo stuck his wife in a recurring role on “Andromeda” and IMHO she was a terrible actress.
and when bad acting stands out on a show like that….it really says something.
In a case where it worked was on JAG and NCIS. Donald P. Bellisario cast his kids on both series. Michael Bellisario in a recurring role on JAG and on NCIS his stepson, Sean Murray, as Timothy McGee and his daughter, Troian Bellisario, in a few episodes. In this case, all could act and were an asset to the shows. Same for Edward James Olmos when his son Bodie Olmos was cast as Hotdog on Battlestar Galactica.
If she can act, then it’s not an issue. I’ve never heard of her before or seen her. But if she can’t act, then it’s painful for the viewers, especially if it’s a recurring role. I remember when Jerry O’Connell forced TPTB to hire his brother when the series “Sliders” was cancelled by FOX and then picked up by SyFy as a requirement of him signing on again. His brother IMO wasn’t a good actor and they got rid of him when Jerry O’Connell left the series. And it really irritated me that Kevin Sorbo had his real life wife cast as his dead wife on “Andromeda” since I thought she was a good actress and then he kept having episodes written to bring her back.
Sorbo’s wife was an actress before he met her on Hercules. He told a story once about how it was pretty much love at first sight. It seems she’s getting back to acting again after being gone to raise their kids.
Also the wife of JAG star David James Elliott, Nancy Chambers, played Lieutenant Loren Singer in 40 episodes of the show.
Will the role require her to cut her hair? If it does, they might need to recast.
OMG… I remember this poor girl when she was being terrorized by Tyra and Mr Jay.

Dude, it’s nepotism. The woman can’t act. Let’s have a moment of silence for all the real struggling actresses out there who would’ve jumped at the chance for this role but Stephen Amell just got his wife a job instead because he can.

Mind you, hasn’t her plotline in many media involved her being frozen/in a coma? Who knows, she may only have to act like she is “dead”

Um, no offense but outside of being Amell’s wife, I’ve never heard of her. Didn’t know she was even an actress. Eh whatever. This crossover sounds like a mess.
Oh my… what did Stephen do to her to have to get THIS for his wife? 0% she auditioned, it’s been 6 years and no mention of her in the series, and suddenly TA-DAAAA?? Yeah, no. Either Arrow is truly approaching its finish line and he’s cashing in all the favors he can get OR Stephen’s very open chatting in a recent podcast cost him a BIG favor for the wife. My personal feelings for this farce aside, I honestly think this is low even objectively speaking.
Perhaps this three episode crossover will be more about how many villains have cameos than a well written storyline.
The more I hear of this crossover this less interested I am. I might just save myself the 3 hours and see Batwoman’s scenes online.
Oh COME ON!!! LOL! I wonder if this little shtick for the lady is worth the humiliation for Stephen. How can he look in the eyes of his colleagues after this? Obviously she’s not doing it for money, it’s pretty much so she can keep calling herself an actress and maybe sit on a panel in HVFF with the ”cool guys”. Quite frankly, it’s pathetic.

My original question about the cross-over/Batwoman series still stands. On what Earth does it take place on? Supergirl’s? or Earth-1? or a separate Earth all-together?
I have been wondering that too… SG eluded to a bat vigilante on her earth and I was hopeful as it would have the team travel her way this time.
That’s my hope.
Odd decision in the surface, Freeze’s wife, but no Freeze.
The rights in the world of comic book tv make my head hurt.

It looks like Mr. Freeze will have a big role in Gotham this final season. So WB TV probably didn’t want two versions on TV,
WB is strict enough with movie vs TV versions of characters. It could be that Mr. Freeze would show up on Batwoman,
after Gotham is cancelled.

Didn’t know Nora was such a popular name. Nora is on the of the CW shows The Flash, L of T, and now Arrow. There are thousands of names. Couldn’t someone come up with something different. And forget how confusing crossovers could become.
I remember her from top model, she was a little extra. I think thats how WB/CW got stephen to sign on for a season 8 of Arrow, by giving her a job. Oh well the crossover is always interesting..
