Tadhg Murphy

Tadhg Murphy was an Irish actor who rose to prominence in America in 2015 after appearing as the notorious pirate Ned Low on the second season of the maritime TV series, "Black Sails" (Starz, 2014-17). Born and raised in Dublin, Murphy took an unlikely route to acting. After a tragic accident when he was 13, in which he lost his right eye after being hit by an arrow, Murphy decided life was too short not to devote himself to what he loved, which just so happened to be acting. With that mindset driving him, Murphy started appearing in stage plays all across Dublin, working extensively at the Druid Theatre Co., where he honed his acting chops before numerous live audiences. His first brush with screen acting came in 2004 when he was cast as a dying soldier in Oliver Stone's epic historical drama, "Alexander" (2004). Murphy continued appearing in Irish movies and TV shows over the next few years, including a small role in the indie drama "Pride and Joy" (2006), as well as a recurring part on the historical TV series, "1916 Seachtar na Cásca" (Abú Media, 2010-). Then in 2013 Murphy broke out on American television as Arne, a one-eyed Viking, on the historical series, "Vikings" (History, 2013-). The success of the show raised Murphy's profile stateside, and in 2015 he nabbed the part of Ned Low, a ruthless 18th century pirate on the historical adventure series, "Black Sails." Starz renewed the series in late 2014, with Murphy set to reprise his role as Ned Low.
