The 41st edition of Luxembourg's agricultural fair kicked off in Ettelbruck on Friday morning.

Exhibitors have over nine hectares of space to display their work to visitors this weekend at the Foire Agricole. On Friday morning, the fair opened to school children to explore the world of farming.

Some 2,600 pupils participated in a number of workshops to discover various aspects of the agricultural sector, organised by Luxembourg's young farmers' association.

"It's important to help children understand agriculture, especially if they come from a background away from farming. We have organised the whole thing to allow them to visit and ask all their questions."

The workshops are open to children and their parents throughout the whole day. Recent farming protests across Europe did not play a role for the organisation.

Anne Dirksen, part of the organising committee, said the fair was above all aimed at young families in the hope of bringing people closer to the country's farming industry. It also offered people within the sector the chance to join discussions amongst themselves.

Over 360 exhibitors participated in this year's edition, which had a particular focus on regional products.

Organisers asked visitors to travel by bus where possible, using the Park + Ride facilities in Karelshaff, Colmar-Berg, as well as in Erpeldange. Free shuttle buses have been laid on to transport visitors to the fair.
