Thanjavur election results: DMK's Murasoli defeats DMDK's Sivanesan to win Lok Sabha seat

NEW DELHI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Murasoli S emerged victorious in Thanjavur constituency with 5,02,245 votes and a margin of 3,19,583 votes. The runner up, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) candidate Sivanesan P polled in 1,82,662 votes.
Thanjavur is one of the 39 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu. It encompasses six assembly constituencies: Orathanadu, Peravurani, Thanjavur, Thiruvaiyaru, Pattukkottai, and Manargudi.

Thanjavur went to polling in the first phase of the 2024 elections on April 19.With over 15 lakh eligible voters, it witnessed a turnout of 68.27%.

In the Thanjavur constituency of Tamil Nadu, a tough battle will be seen between BJP, DMDK, DMK,NTK. From the INDI alliance, DMK fielded Murasoli S while BJP fielded Muruganantham M, DMDK fielded Sivanesan P and NTK gave ticket to Humayun Kabir MI.

In the 2019 elections for the Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency, SS Palanimanickam, the candidate representing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), emerged victorious with 5,88,978 votes. The runner-up, NR. Natarajan of the TMC(M), secured 2,20,849 votes. The total voter turnout for this constituency was recorded at 72.55%.
In the 2014 elections, K Parasuraman from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won the seat, gathering 5,10,307 votes. TR Baalu, the DMK candidate,was the runner up with 3,66,188 votes. The total number of votes cast for this constituency in that election was 75.57%.
In 2019, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate secured victory in the Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency with 55.96% of the votes. TMC(M) candidate received 20.98% of the votes.
