Vadodara: A man working as a general manager with a private firm was duped of Rs 1.24 crore by cyber crooks. The gang lured the complainant by offering good returns on stock trading.
The victim filed a complaint of cheating with the Cyber Crime police station wherein he stated that he had clicked on an advertisement on Facebook following which he got added to a WhatsApp group.
Information on the stock trading was shared on this group and many were also sharing the screenshots of the profits they had earned. He was convinced that it was a genuine group and asked the admin if he wants to join the trading activity.

He was then added to another group and he was asked to click on a link to get registered. He was asked to deposit money for trading in stocks and the mobile app showed him the balance amount. He had also withdrawn Rs 500 at one point in time. He kept investing more money and ended up transferring Rs 1.24 crore to various bank accounts. The app showed that he had earned Rs 20 crore but when he tried to withdraw some money, his attempts failed. When he contacted the admin, he was given various excuses following which he realised that he was duped.
