The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Inspector Deepak Waman Bagul of Tilak Nagar for accepting a Rs 35,000 bribe. Bagul asked for Rs 1 lakh from a complainant who invested Rs 27.50 lakh in a credit society.
MUMBAI: A senior inspector of the Mumbai police, Deepak Waman Bagul, was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000. The bribe was solicited to recover money invested in a credit society by the complainant. The incident took place on Monday, and Bagul, of Tilak Nagar police station, had initially demanded Rs 1 lakh.

The complainant had invested Rs 27.50 lakh in the credit society, which was managed by a woman who owed him Rs 17.50 lakh. Instead of settling the dues, the woman lodged a complaint against him at Tilak Nagar police station.
The ACB laid a trap and apprehended Bagul while he was accepting Rs 35,000 from the complainant. Bagul has admitted to demanding the bribe.
"The accused official, who was caught taking Rs 35,000, has admitted that he had demanded the bribe," an official said.
A case has been registered against Bagul under the Prevention of Corruption Act. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
