NEW DELHI: In a significant political shift, the Congress party has lost the Shillong Lok Sabha seat after a 15-year hold, with Voice of the People's Party (VPP) candidate Ricky AJ Syngkon securing a decisive victory. Syngkon won by an impressive margin of 371,910 votes, defeating three-term Congress MP Vincent H Pala.
Syngkon received a total of 571,078 votes, while Pala managed to secure 199,168 votes.National People's Party (NPP) candidate Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh finished third with 186,488 votes.
Acknowledging the results, the Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma posted on X, "We humbly accept and respect the mandate of the people and wish Mr Saleng A Sangma and Mr Ricky Andrew J Syngkon the very best."

The outcome marks a notable change in Shillong's political landscape, ending Congress's long-standing dominance in the constituency. The victory of Ricky AJ Syngkon and the VPP signifies a new chapter for the region, reflecting the electorate's desire for fresh representation and change in their parliamentary voice.
