Sangma thanks PM & FM for release of Meghalaya tax share
Shillong: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for approving the release of over Rs 1,000 crore as tax devolution to the state for June, reports Manosh Das
“We express our gratitude to the Ministry of Finance, GoI for releasing an additional installment of the share of central taxes of INR 536 crores to Meghalaya and a total of Rs 1072.9 crore for June,” the chief minister said.

“This additional money will enable the state to accelerate the ongoing development projects,” said the chief minister, who also holds the finance portfolio.
“The govt has released two installments of the devolution of taxes, which was meant for different states. So every month we normally get one installment, but the Centre in one way has given a bonus to every state by releasing two installments,” the chief minister said, adding that this was a “very significant” step by the new govt at the Centre.
“This is a great gesture by the honourable Prime Minister and the finance minister and a great way to start the new govt, and once again I would like to thank the Government of India for releasing over Rs 1,000 crore in terms of the devolution of taxes, which will definitely help the state in many developmental as well as social programmes that we have,” chief minister Sangma underscored.
