Rahul to visit Manipur tomorrow, aims to corner BJP on ethnic conflicts in state
New Delhi: A week after putting the Modi govt in a spot in Parliament over ethnic conflicts in Manipur, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to visit the northeastern state on Monday, a visit to keep BJP on the defensive on a difficult issue.
The visit is designed as Rahul's first to a state after becoming the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha. Congress in-charge Girish Chodankar said the tour to Gujarat on Saturday was to meet Congress workers while the Manipur trip is to meet the common man.
"Rahul is coming to meet the people of Manipur. He decided that his first trip as LOP should be Manipur. He will come with the message of love. It should not be seen as a political trip," he said. Rahul will visit Jiribam relief camp in Meitei areas and then Churachandpur and Moirang camps in Kuki areas. He is likely to be accompanied by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal. tnn
