NEW DELHI: A 46-year-old man from the African continent was shot dead in outer Delhi's Chander Vihar on Saturday.
Police have said it was a planned and targeted attack, and they are investigating multiple angles, including possible financial motives. The man, identified as Sunday Ernest Morah, lived in a rented house.
Police got a PCR call at 9:54 pm on Saturday about the shooting.
"The caller told us that two men had shot at a man," the officer said. A team from the police station went to the spot and found blood stains on the ground and in a shop, but the man had already been taken to a hospital.
Deputy commissioner of police (outer) Jimmy Chiram said the incident occurred just outside a garment shop in A block, Vikash Vihar.
During inquiry, police learned that Morah was going to the market when two men on a motorbike approached him and started firing at him. He ran into the shop for safety, but the men chased him and shot him thrice. "He sustained had three bullet injuries, two in the abdomen and one in the leg. He was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and succumbed to injuries on Sunday," the officer said.
Sources suspect that the two men knew Morah would be at the market. They were waiting there, and as soon as he arrived, they fired at him. Videos shot after the incident showed that the windowpanes of the shop were damaged. One video showed the victim lying on the floor, with people gathered nearby.

The shop owner said his younger brother was standing outside talking to two or three people when a man came running and hid behind them, thinking the shooters wouldn't fire. "They fired a round, and everyone in the market scattered for cover," he said. "My brother ran inside the shop, and the foreigner followed him. But the shooters shot him on the staircase and left."
The investigation has revealed that Morah was earlier booked by UP police under a section of cheating. He used to live in west Delhi's Tilak Nagar, and about 8 to 10 months ago, he shifted to Chander Vihar. "He lived alone in the rented house, and police are finding out relevant documents to check whether he was staying legally or not," a source said.
Police are investigating whether a financial transaction went wrong or if personal animosity related to some work triggered the shooting. "Two miscreants arrived at the spot on a bike. To conceal their identities, they had bent the bike's number plate," the source said.
Police are using his phone to identify and contact his acquaintances in Delhi for further investigation.
