At the start of the pandemic, dozens of Canadian designers started making masks (many with a charitable or buy-one-donate-one model). This effort has hardly slowed down—in fact, more and more brands are producing cloth face masks and using their fabric and resources for the greater good. Here are 10 locally made options, from patterned to solid, pleated or fitted, that you can buy online.

All funds from the sale of Vancouver-based swimwear designer Beth Richards’ masks go to Canada Helps, a charity that’s currently helping women who are hardest hit by COVID-19.

Frank and Oak’s mask is made from cotton and 100 per cent of proceeds will go to Moisson Montréal, an organization that redistributes food and basic commodity donations to marginalized populations in the city. The mask is currently sold out, but you can join the waitlist.

The masks by Montreal-based luxury brand UNTTLD are almost as striking as its womenswear, thanks to the delicate micro-pleats. The mask features a filter and a nose wire, and 10 per cent of sales will go to the Patricia Mackenzie Pavilion, a facility that offers women a safe place to sleep, psychosocial counselling as well emergency and transition services.
