Hey, remember how Monica, Joey, Ross et al. said they’d be there for you? Well, it took a few decades and years of strenuous denials that they’d ever do it, but Friends is officially back! Like they’ve been there before, when the rain starts to pour.

We finally have official confirmation of what was reported last year by the Hollywood Reporter. The original six cast mates (David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and yes, even Jennifer Aniston) are working with HBO Max to reunite on the small screen for the first time since the final (10th!) season of the show wrapped 16 years ago.

Now, if you were hoping for an actual episode of them in character, it’s a hard “Pivot!” from that dream I’m afraid. This will be an “unscripted reunion special.” Unless they’re throwing us a curve ball and planning a “where are they now” episode that’s entirely improv, that likely means some sitting around reminiscing about the show.

It’s perhaps not quite what Friends fans were hoping for, but if the show is your “lobster” (or even just the televisual comfort food you put on when you need something that demands nothing of you other than to laugh), it will be nice to see the gang back together again. According to HBO Max, this reunion will premier on their streaming platform in May. (In Canada, look for it on Crave, who have a content partnership with HBO Max.) As a fun fact: The actors are apparently being paid 3 million each for this show, which makes even the millions they were getting for the shows’s final seasons look paltry.

50/50 split on whether they do it on the old Central Perk coffee house set.
