We keep saying this and then digging out our puffas again, but it really is true: Warm weather is very much on its way. And what better way to manifest sunshine now than updating your collection of summer-ready sandals. But where to start? We did the homework and looked to the Spring 2022 runways to bring you the big style hits of pedicure season.

From Y2K flatforms to fisherman flats, here are four sandal trends we’ll be seeing everywhere this summer.

Athletic Sandals

Sporty attire made a major play on the Spring 2022 runways, so we’re not surprised to see that the shoe game matches the looks. Though the athletic sandal is a perennial style of the past few years, this time around the chunkier the look, the better. Basically the sandal version of the dad sneaker, athletic sandals are cool, comfortable and you can walk all day in them.

ICYMI: Sorel does not just make good lookin’ winter boots. The brand designs function-first sandals, too, in eye-catching colours like this cool neon green. The style features an adjustable buckle, leather straps and chunky sole, so they’re not only stylish with a spring dress, but also super comfortable.

In case you were wondering, the Teva-inspired sporty sandal trend is here to stay. But if sporty/crunchy is not your style DNA, how about this bow-detailed, gingham version from Loeffler Randall?  A hidden velcro closure at the back makes them easy to slip on and off at all those summer picnics.

Gladiator Sandals

The gladiator is back and more fashionable than ever, thanks to fashion houses like Alberta Ferretti—which went for boho lace-up vibes—and Valentino, which showed edgy, combat takes on the style. One thing they all have in common: They’re just begging to be taken on vacation.

We saw platforms towering over us last fall season, and designers just can’t get enough of that extra lift. Stomp into spring with a bit of extra height with the summer platform edition: the flatform. With super-thick soles, these sandals offer a wearable, everyday take on a very fashionable trend.
