You Should Totally Try a Hair Scarf This Summer

The perfect fix for a bad hair day

Gucci did them in a granny floral. Dior opted for monograms and bleach splatters and Jacquemus went monochromatic. Bandanas were all over the Fall 2020 runways, emerging as the season’s reigning hair accessory.

But that doesn’t mean you have to wait for the leaves to turn to try them out. Au contraire, the trend seems especially appropriate for right now. (For proof, please direct your attention to the summer campaign for Rouje, French influencer Jeanne Damas’s clothing brand.)

Maybe you’re still waiting on that post-isolation root touch-up or you’ve been spacing out hair washes while staying at home. A scarf proves a savvy solution for both scenarios. Plus, how will you handle wearing your bandana under a hat when it gets cold? The time is now, friends.

The best part? The infinite styling possibilities. For a nod to early aughts nostalgia, go for the paisley pattern favoured by Beyoncé circa Destiny’s Child and Christina Aguilera in her “Genie in a Bottle” days. Want something more “now”? Consider tie-dye, official print of the pandemic. Or perhaps you’d like to embrace the look’s rustic  leanings with a ditsy floral—especially apropos if you’re prone to saying things like “I grew these from seeds.” (Might we suggest linen for the sourdough-starter set?) Then there’s the fancy silk square—emblazoned with logos, nautical ropes or geometric motifs—which begs to be paired with a classic convertible. Whatever your style, there’s a scarf for that.
