Flynn makes bizarre remark about AR-15: ‘Maybe I’ll find somebody in Washington, D.C.’

Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser in the Trump administration who has repeatedly courted controversy by repeating conspiracy theories, in a new video appears to joke about using a gun on people in Washington.

Flynn makes the remark in a video where he is presented with an AR-15 rifle as a gift from an unidentified man on stage with the former top administration official.

“We were trying to come up with a rifle that we thought was appropriate for a general, so we went with the old school woodland camouflage. So, anyhow, this is one of our top quality guns,” the man tells Flynn, which elicits laughs from the crowd.

As he received the gun, Flynn says “maybe I’ll find somebody in Washington, D.C.,” to laughter from people at the event.

“This one’s Florida compliant,” the man giving the gun to Flynn responds. Flynn then moved to shake his hand.

The exchange took place during an event on stage at the Church of Glad Tidings in Yuba City, Calif. He was slated to appear at the church, according to a Facebook post.

A video of the exchange was reportedly livestreamed on the church’s website, but ultimately removed, according to NBC News. A clip of Flynn’s comment, however, was shared on Twitter.

The Hill has reached out to Flynn for comment.

Flynn served as Trump’s first national security adviser until he resigned in February 2017, 22 days into his tenure.

He pleaded guilty that year to lying to the FBI about his communications with Russia. In January 2020, however, he requested that a court let him withdraw his guilty plea, just two weeks before he was scheduled to be sentenced.

In November 2020, then-President Trump issued Flynn a full pardon.

Rachel Vindman, the wife of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who was a key witness in Trump’s first impeachment, denounced Flynn on Twitter after his comments, writing “Flynn should be recalled to active duty and court martialed.”

Flynn made headlines in May when he appeared to call for a Myanmar-like coup to take place in the U.S. during an appearance at a conference in Texas, which was attended by many supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory.

Flynn was captured in video footage saying “I want to know why what happened in Myanmar can’t happen here?” which elicited a round of cheers from the audience.

“No reason. I mean, it should happen here,” he added, once the crowd quieted down.
