Tory Lanez's Wife Raina Chassagne Files For Divorce, Requests Right For Future Spousal Support

Tory Lanez's wife will not be sticking around until the bitter end.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the "Talk to Me" rapper's troubles behind bars have increased with his wife, Raina Chassagne's decision to end their marriage. Her move comes less than a year after they exchanged vows.

Tory Lanez was given a ten-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion two months after his wedding.

Lanez, born Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, was named in documents filed at the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse on Monday, June 10, 2024, when his wife moved to end their marriage.

According to the filing, the pair said their vows on June 25, 2023, six months after the rapper was convicted on three charges.

For the alleged crime of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot, Lanez was hit with first-degree assault, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, and having a concealed and unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

He and Chassagne did not get to enjoy the bliss of being newlyweds, as Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison two months after their nuptials. Now, the duo's marriage is heading for the rocks, with Chassagne blaming it all on "irreconcilable differences."

According to court documents, Chassagne requested spousal support but asked the Court to reserve her right to request compensation from Lanez at a future date. It is unclear if she did so in consideration of his incarceration.

As for their 7-year-old son, Kai'lon Peterson, Chassagne asked for sole legal and physical custody and offered Lanez visitation rights. She has reportedly taken the boy to visit his father in prison, and this system may continue if the Court grants her request.

Lanez tried to stay with his family by petitioning for a bond during his appeal case in 2023. Unfortunately, The Blast reported that a judge squashed his hopes of an early exit from his prison sentence in September.

Following his 10-year prison sentence, Lanez filed an appeal and requested a bond allowing him to live with his family while awaiting the case's outcome. However, a judge denied his petition for three reasons.

The legal umpire cited the rapper's violent felony conviction, past court order violations, and non-U.S. citizenship as reasons for the rejection.

The defense team's arguments that Lanez had a valid work visa and lacked the incentive to return to Canada did not move the judge.

The 31-year-old was ordered to remain within the walls of the Los Angeles County Jail, where insiders claimed he faced rigorous schedules and only a handful of hours outside his confinement.

During Lanez's confinement, The Blast shared that sources revealed he was housed in the administrative segregation unit (ASU) in North Kern. The "Hurts Me" rapper was kept alone while awaiting his transfer to a federal facility to serve his 10-year sentence.

However, an insider claimed Lanez struggled to adjust to his new environment because he feared being targeted by other inmates. "Tory is scared for his life and safety in prison. He feels like he is an instant and direct target because of his celebrity status," the source claimed.

Another report revealed that Lanez was "escorted to the showers where he bathes by himself." He was also kept alone whenever he went to the yard while his meals were sent to his cell, precautionary measures the insider claimed were necessary.

The source stressed that Lanez has multiple reasons to fear for his safety behind bars, saying: "He stands in at 5-foot-3, so his size is a setback. He is housed with real hardcore criminals and murderers."

"So, he hopes his lawyers will be able to continue fighting for his freedom while still maintaining his innocence. The whole thing is a mess," the insider lamented. Their words weren't far from the truth, as a report claimed North Kern was filled with violent inmates.

One inmate was allegedly charged with first-degree murder for the death of his cellmate, another severe crime on top of his multiple murder sentences. Another inmate was convicted for attacking two staff members at the state prison.
