RECOFTC is an international nonprofit organization working towards a future where resilient communities with respected rights thrive in forest landscapes that they manage sustainably and equitably. We take a long-term, landscape-based and inclusive approach in supporting local communities to secure their land and resource rights, stop deforestation, find alternative livelihoods and foster gender equality. With more than 36 years of experience, we have built trusting relationships with partners from communities, governments, businesses, academia and civil society organizations. Our innovations, knowledge and initiatives enable countries to foster good forest governance, mitigate and adapt to climate change and achieve the UN Global Goals. We operate in the Asia-Pacific region, with country offices in Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Viet Nam.

🌿Nepal’s Sindhupalchok and Dolakha districts are part of the majestic Sacred Himalayan Landscape. In a recent baseline study, we evaluated the four pillars of the LandScale framework – ecosystems, human well-being, governance and production – to better understand the interconnections between ecological and socio-economic systems in these areas. Findings and data from the LandScale assessment will help us strengthen collaboration with local levels of government. We also hope to explore opportunities for collaboration with other stakeholders, including the private sector, to drive positive change in the landscape. Learn more about how the LandScale assessment is helping bridge data gaps and explore sustainable solutions in the region. 👉🏾https://lnkd.in/ed_-34jP #SacredHimalayanLandscape #forestgovernance
The Sacred Himalayan Landscape in Nepal encompasses over 450,000 hectares of diverse terrain, from tropical to alpine climates. 🏔️ Yet, evolving land use patterns have led to the degradation of 4.46% of this landscape’s forested area. To effectively protect and conserve biodiversity, we need strategies that go beyond traditional protected areas. To empower local communities and foster a sense of ownership in conservation efforts, RECOFTC developed a Forest Landscape Vulnerability Assessment Tool. This tool has already identified five promising nature-based solutions, which have been embraced and co-financed by the local government. 🌱 These collaborative efforts highlight the importance of combining community involvement with innovative strategies to protect ecosystems.
