THE BARN-DOOR STUDIO
A new studio and living space is carefully nestled amongst a cluster of surrounding buildings to replace and celebrate an original garage that previously sat on the site. The beautiful old barn doors were salvaged, re-used and integrated into the new design.
New meaningful relationships are constructed between the studio and the main house at ground level with functional landscape features, raised decks and a new screened-in-porch. New framed views are created on the upper floors to take in the ocean view and the sunset for the first time due to the inverted programmatic design.
Designed as a modern re-interpretation of classic New England vernacular, using traditional materials and techniques in a contemporary way to celebrate a new space while preserving the memory of a beloved old garage.
