This AI voiceover tool makes it easy to create just the spoken audio you need

Jun 6

TL;DR: Micmonster is an easy-to-use AI voiceover tool that you can easily add to your audio toolkit, and now through June 17, a lifetime subscription is $49.97 (reg. $119).

When I’m shooting a video, subtitles, and audio, provide clarity for the finished product and make it easier to watch. But while AI subtitles are easy to create in the various social media apps, the voiceover tools leave a lot to be desired.

And especially when you need multiple language tracks, you can’t narrate every video yourself. If you can’t find or afford a professional voice actor, a Micmonster lifetime subscription can fill the gap, and it’s an especially good deal at a sale price of $49.97 through June 17.

What exactly is Micmonster?

Micmonster is a browser-based AI tool. When you open up the site, you’ll find over 600 voices, 140 language options, and five voice styles, all from professional voice actors.

Voices are represented by icons that tell you whether it’s more male, more female, or more child-like. The voices all sound natural, although, like any AI voice, there will be moments you have to adjust.

How I used Micmonster

The browser interface is easy to get started with. Just click Create a New Project, and you’re immediately ready to go. When you open a project, there’s a main window resembling a chat window and the voice library is on the right.

Each voice has a natural name to make it easy to find. You’ll need an internet connection to use it, but I used Micmonster on multiple platforms, including a smartphone over a 5G connection, and it was more than fast enough to work on projects.

I also found that I could run Micmonster in a browser while using video editing software, so it's easy to swap between the two different high-powered apps.

It's especially handy knowing you can type or paste a line of script into your project, add a few more lines called blocks, and quickly swap out voices to recite the same line and choose the one you want to hear.

A favorite feature of mine lets you click a heart icon next to the voices you like and move them to the top for quick access. You can see the names next to your block as well, making it simple to track each voice that you’re using, and there’s a character counter at the top that shows you how close you are to the 12,000-character limit.

Voiceover creation with time-saving features

Another useful time saver is that recent changes you’ve made to the tone of a line are saved at the top of the project, so you can highlight text and apply them without opening a menu.

You can also highlight a string of text and apply a Reading Rule to it. For example, you can have your voiceover read a date or an amount of money in a certain way for extra interest.

One aspect I appreciated was that it’s easy to use the same voice to experiment with different emphasis on different words. Right-click on a word, select the emphasize function, and you’ll be able to set which words are emphasized with an interface where you draw points on a graph.

I felt it could be more intuitive, but since you can compare two lines with different emphases using the same voice, a little practice helps you get the hang of it.

A voiceover tool that supports various formats

Another useful touch is that Micmonster supports the SubRip Subtitle (.srt) format, as well as .doc and .txt formats. So, if you’re editing a video, you can just pull the audio you already have, edit out any unwanted words, and import it directly into Micmonster without transcribing it.

For .doc and .txt files, the script reader can also import lines separately or import the script in paragraphs, so it’s easy to bring in scripts with two or more voices as well. I found that for longer scripts, you’ll need to be careful how you split up your lines.

A preview function built into the upload command shows you how your lines are divided, so you can go back and change your script first before you upload.

Equally helpful is the robust preview function. You can preview any block in your project or preview the entire project before committing. That’s especially useful because some voices interpret some punctuation marks differently. For example, in my tests, one voice I used would insert a noise of disgust every time we used a semicolon.

When exporting, another touch I greatly appreciated was that I could export my entire project as one file or each line separately. That made audio editing on my videos a lot easier, as I could pull just the lines I wanted, speeding up my workflow.

Each finished render has a “script” button you can click to see the text without playing the file back, and you can download individual files or the whole render as a bundle.

While it took me a little work to get the exact voiceover results I wanted, Micmonster was more intuitive and easier to use than many other AI software. Because of the robust preview features and file support, it was easier to get started and integrate into my workflow.

If you have a podcast, a social media feed, or any other audio channel, it’s absolutely worth adding to your process to get clean, highly customizable voiceovers at any time.

You can streamline your voiceover needs with a lifetime subscription to Micmonster, now just $49.97 until June 17 at 11:59 PM Pacific.
